i can't swallow pills! what should i do?

Question 1
i can't swallow pills! what should i do?...  ok so i recently had my teeth pulled and i need to take antibiotics to not get an infection. problem is i'm horribly afraid of swallowing pills. like deathly afraid. i understand that it's all in my mind and i could swallow though. i was able to swallow one but when i tried the second i almost choked on another. i tried taking a third and ended up choking on that! what can i do so that i take it without ending up choking. i've seen what others do but i'm terribly afraid to try. i have tried stimulating with food and others but i just can't seem to relax.

Answers
1)   take a deep breathe. i was like this and i ended up trying with advils cause they are smaller and eventually got the hang of it. if you still cant do it talk to your doctor and try to get your antibiotics in a different format. - our battles

2)   Try drinking something (like soda or monster something with flavor so u don't taste the pills & that's carbonated so you don't feel them) before you take the pills and keep drinking while you take them (for me it make me feel like im just drinking really fast. Also try not to think about it and relax as much as possible . I hope i helped some :) - Alyssa Wright

3)   Try inserting them rectally. See if that helps. And don't poop them back out, try to work them back through your intestines into your stomach. - Ed Smith

4)   awwww....well if they are huge, tastes and smells weird...drink orange juice so u can have the taste of OJ in your mouth and then quickly throw it in your mouth and swallow with OJ. Dont leave it in ur mouth too long...the taste makes u feel like throwing it up. do them really fast, that's the trick.

ANOTHER WAY....you can crush them and mix it with water/OJ or whatever you drink that tastes good. and just chug it! - Shorty

5)   you will have to learn someday. Try not to think to hard about swallowing. Tilt your head back and do it as quick as you can. - K.Stokes

6)   Crunch them up and dilute it in water, then drink - the answer

7)   Can you call the pharmacy and ask if there is any problem using a pill grinder and adding the powder to water an taking them? I often do this, except with B Complex which tastes bad as a powder in water but most taste ok. I don't know about antibiotics if you could stand the taste. - ☼☼☼Home Remedies☼☼☼

Question 2
Rubbing dirt into your eyeballs: A good treatment for headaches?...  I've heard a lot of talk lately about how rubbing dirt into your eyes is a good natural treatment for headaches and wanted to know if anyone had tried it and if you would suggest this treatment and anything else I should know about it.

And to all the skeppy trolls who will show up as usual and say something like there's no science to prove it works or something just don't bother answering cause you're fooling no one we all know you're getting paid by the pharmaceutical companies!

1)   You should know that you can scratch your cornea, cause a serious infection and least of all create a sty that will be very uncomfortable. Whoever told you this was a good idea was just pulling your leg. I am an eye doctor. Please don't put dirt anywhere near your eyes. Take a pain reliever for your headache or see your doctor for a diagnosis if they are that severe. - Cheese

2)   lol, i wish i was paid to answer these !
as for your question, dirt is full of microbes, bacteria and fungi, so expect a high likelihood of contracting an unusual and unpleasant eye infection if you insist on doing this.
headaches are often caused by dehydration, so be sure you drink sufficient water.
btw soda does not count, as it is dehydrating.
good luck. - Chris

3)   Only if you want to be a blind man with an eye infection. - the answer

4)   If you have seen anything on the internet about rubbing dirt into your eyes to cure headaches, it's most likely because trolls use it as a question in places like this... - Tink

5)   no, you may lose your eyesight - Chudeswari S

6)   You would be better off using homeopathic dirt 30C. That way there are no side effects and your body's vital life force will expel the headache naturally. Hey, either way if works its only going to be by placebo... - Gary Y

Question 4
is there a natural home remedy that cures baldness?...  for example, cyanne pepper mixed with olive oil and coconut oil and sage placed directly on the balding areas of the scalp and massaged ? Has that worked for anyone and if so has a substantial amount of hair grown in? and if so how long has it taken?t

Answers
1)   Sad to say, there is no proven cure for baldness, except for some over the counter products that can help delay premature baldness. The cause of baldness is genetic in nature, which means if your parents or your grandparents had the baldness strain in their genes, then its inevitable you inherited it too. Except for some drugs that can cause your hair to fall, like steroids and anti cancer drugs, baldness is inevitably printed in your genes, which means at a certain age, you will see a noticeable pattern of hairloss. But if the saying grass does not grow on a busy street is true, then you can take consolation in it, and, some women find pattern baldness appealing, or so they say. - ruben

2)   There are factors why people go bald it may be age factor, genetic factor, hormonal changes, stress, poor circulation of blood to the , weak hair root, and excess dandruff.

There is no cure for it but can be prevented.

Below are some remedies.

A mixture of equal quantity of fresh amla juice and lime juice when used as a shampoo stimulates hair growth and prevents hair loss.

One cup of lettuce and spinach juice taken daily prevents hair loss.

Washing the hair with a paste of cooked black gram dal and fenugreek lengthens the hair. This is very useful hair loss cure.

Mix the powder of shana seeds and a few drops of essential oils such as sesame oil or coconut oil and make a paste. Apply this paste on scalp regularly - Merkeli Woods

3)   Bald or shaved head, also known as alopecia, refers to the abnormal hair loss can be caused by hormonal imbalance. Malnutrition, genetic, disease, psychological stress, mood, endocrine disorders, are receiving cancer treatment may cause baldness.

Diet, attention to work and rest, attention to mood, attention to exercise (accelerated blood circuit) also strengthen the hair outside nursing, such as: nutrition made with film, repair of shampoo, preferably two to three days to wash once. Let hair dry naturally. There is also a method of egg white with one painted in the washed hair, massage a little wash, egg white is a protein that hair is not the lack of human proteins, the body's metabolism is the lack of toughness

Iron supplementation. Body hair loss often often iron deficiency. Iron-rich foods are beans, black beans, eggs, octopus, shrimp, cooked peanuts, spinach, carp, bananas, carrots, potatoes, etc. - Lili Mo

4)   Hair Loss (Propecia) ¤¤¤Home Remedies¤¤¤

Hair loss is often due to fungus and heavy metals, could also be bacterial in origin, or may also be a manganese, vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D and/or magnesium deficiency). Take care of these issues to help hair grow back.

INTERNAL:
1. Alkalization: Slowly pour two teaspoons (to two tablespoons) of organic raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) over 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). After it stops fizzing, add one cup of water and drink this two times a day for four to five days a week (on an empty stomach).

2. Oral Borax (sodium tetraborate) (a natural powdered laundry detergent): Mix 1/8 teaspoon (women) to 1/4 teaspoon (men) of borax (also defluoridates the water) to one liter of dechlorinated drinking water a day (e.g. taking half cup to one cup every hour or so) for four to five days a week while the ailment persists.
DO NOT CONFUSE BORAX WITH BORIC ACID!
DO NOT TAKE BORIC ACID IN PLACE OF BORAX!

3. Oral Manganese: Take 25 milligrams of manganese sulfate five days a week for two to three weeks (on an empty stomach). After a few days to two weeks, excess hair loss will stop – if the hair loss was caused by a manganese deficiency.

4. Oral Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate): Take 1,000-2,000 milligrams of vitamin C two times a week for four to five days a week (on an empty stomach).

EXTERNAL:
1. Topical Borax Shampoo: Mix one tablespoon of borax to one liter of water (takes 30 minutes to dissolve, shake well before use) four to five days a week (can be left on overnight).

2. Topical Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Rinse: Rinse with ACV to remove calcium clogging the hair follicle root.

Question 5
Arnica Montana on a calf?...  One of my calves got stepped on and its lag is swolen. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to feed it 30c tablets of Arnica and how many little tablets a day. Any info would be great! Thanks.

Answers
1)   as there has never been any evidence that homeopathy works, it,s probably not worth your effort - Morgson

2)   Firstly you should never give human meds to animals.

However in the case of homeopathic Arnica 30C, it doesn't matter because its only a sugar pill. The 30C means the arnica has been dilluted in water - massively diluted - to the point where not one molecule of the arnica remains in the remedy. One drop of this dilution is then placed on the sugar pill.

30C is a dilution ratio of 10 to the power of 60, and to put that into perspective; to get 1ml of arnica you would need a container the size of 1.2 million cubic light years. I kid you not. Homeopaths babble on about water having a memory, or it's the 'vibrations', of course this is rubbish.

Even if the remedy did have an effect, according to the homeopathic law of like cures like, arnica wouldn't work for a swollen leg anyway. Arnica is a herb that contains helenalin, an anti-inflammatory - so that would not be like cures like, it would not recreate similar symptoms.

See this systematic review where the conclusion reads: "The claim that homeopathic arnica is efficacious beyond a placebo effect is not supported by rigorous clinical trials."

Don't subject your calf to alt med nonsense - take it to a vet. - Gary Y

3)   Put some liniment on his leg and wrap it to reduce the swelling. - oldknowitall

4)   Homeopathy is water, sugar and smoke and mirrors. Take your moo-buddy to a vet and make sure that it doesn't have any internal injuries. Especially if he was stepped on by another cow/bull. They can have no symptoms until it's too late to save them.

Yeah, I might eat a burger on rare occassion, but I'm a sucker for those big brown eyes.

Good Luck - I'll cross my fingers for yer calf.

What laws do you have against alternative medicine lies?

Question 1
What laws do you have against alternative medicine lies?...  What kind of laws do you have in your country to prevent scammers from lying and making false claims about their products?
In the UK we have the Advertising Standards Authority who recently banned an advert for claiming:

""Revitalise will halt and actually reverse the effects of arthritis! There is currently no medical cure for arthritis and many of the treatments available from your doctor ... are themselves painful or have unpleasant side effects.

"Revitalise is available without prescription, has no side effects and is all natural, so will not interfere with any medication you are currently taking.""

Lies such as "reverse the effects of arthritis" and "all natural, so will not interfere with any medication" are easily believed by the less well educated and/or more gullible sectors of society, so the advert was banned to protect these people from being exploited.

Do you have similar laws in your country? If not, are vulnerable people there protected from these sorts of nefarious charlatans in any other way?

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20101208/thl-arthritis-advert-was-misleading-d831572.html
Nosey, are you worried that your habitual lying could be legislated against also?
GN: Thanks for your input. Here's an example that (contrary to your belief) includes lots of people recommending cures for the common cold: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqzCF4nAms0mhpu43FiGr.ogBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20101205163654AADQ15W If you hang around long enough you'll find plenty of people who will claim that alt med cures cancer and AIDS as well. If we appear a little curt at times, I'm sure you'll be able to now appreciate why.

Answers
1)   Alternative medicine is incredibly useless. - Maxwell Cui

2)   Another logical fallacy of begging the question: "Alternative medicine lies"?
Use of emotive language and value judgments: "nefarious charlatans"? Rather melodramatic don't you think?
There are also nice laws against libel and slander.

Canada has legislation that targets false and misleading advertising for products, but it's another story when governments are lobbied to enact legislation that protects a trade or organization like the medical industry -- like last year's phoney swine flu pandemic where patients had to sign waivers making it impossible for them to sue the vaccine manufacturers for adverse effects. Many people ended up paralysed and had no legal recourse. So if you weigh a questionnable claim from some distributor of a relatively harmless arthritis product that at worst can't do much against permanent paralysis, which is more significant?

Many Canadian provinces also have regulatory bodies under a Health Professions Act like the College of Physicans and Surgeons, Naturopaths, Homeopaths, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Nurses, Dental Hygeinists, etc. and professional associations that set out the minimum educational standards for their members.

Seems some people just can't get over the fact that natural/holistic medicine is becoming more popular than mainstream and that "alternative" is a misnomer concocted by the drug company propaganda machine.

Recently the FDA started threatening cherry growers for having the audacity to claim that cherries are good for you and had links to scientific studies. The cherry growers sued the FDA and won. The judge considered the FDA to be morons. - thenoseknows

3)   It would be nice if they made any supplement manufacturer have to proove their claims, such as "contains no chemicals" water is a damn chemical for goodness sake.

It would be nice if they also banned the term "proprietary blend" so that they would have to show just how 99% of their supplement is actually rice flour. - Flizbap 2.0

4)   Hey Dave, Check out the world news and see what they have to say about the "BIG PHARMA" They're being sued again for over charging medicare and medicaid and giving the difference to the doctors. Now do you think people will believe anything you say on here. I think not. Open your eyes. There's a big world out there and you're missing it. HA! - Know the Cause

5)   In Australia, your example would breach the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Regulatory Guidelines For Complimentary Medicines, but they can often be a toothless tiger.

There are other avenues - the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission), the various states all have government departments where consumer complaints can be made, we have a good federal government site http://www.scamwatch.gov.au, and there are also independent health watchdogs.

And then there is the media, blogs, general skeptical activism which is very proactive here. - Gary Y

6)   Pretty weak ones in the US, basically the FDA(our regulatory body for medical treatments) only has authority over altmed if they make specific health claims like "this cures..." most alt med products sold here are specifically advertised to skirt around the FDA's jurisdiction. - evirustheslaye

7)   Apparently in the US Quackapractors can say anything they want. Damn the insulin, get your diabetes cured here....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35ExFWcPqO8 Chiropractic helps your brain "talk" to your pancreas????? - massage therapist

8)   All that rambling was just YOUR OPINION. NOT FACTUAL. - healthminded

9)   The biggest "law" in our favor is "natural selection".....eventually if enough idiots shun modern medicine in favor of charlatanism and quackery, they will hopefully die off and not pass their defective genes on to the next generation.

Guardian: "...no practitioner worth their salt would say that they could 'cure' someone...."

Oh, but folks here all the time (Know the Cause to name just ONE) claim to know the CURES for lots of things - diabetes just to name one thing. Kevin Trudeau has the infomercial and book "Miracle Cures THEY Don't Want You to Know About" or something like that......you mean to tell me that you folks DON'T know all of the cures??????? - Joe

10)   i have to agree with 'thenosek' about the reaction of conventional medicine and the pharmaceutical industry regarding their actions when holistic medicine, whether herbs or treatment, is seen as being helpful to a medical condition. they start a witch hunt and try to denigrate the whole spectrum of complementary/alternative medicine.
i agree with you Dave that many overthecounter so called remedies do not work, this is probably because they are not tailored to the individual, which is what a professionally qualified alt.med.practitioner would do. health food stores selling proprietary brands know their product knowledge but are not qualified to diagnose.
professional alt.med practitioners are often highly qualified and belong to bona fide organisations that monitor training and practice.....ant that's in the UK.
sounds like you'veve been mislead by someone....no practitioner worth their salt would say that they could 'cure' someone....alleviate symptoms perhaps. it tends to be some individuals in conventional medicine that use that term, but some of them are good.
.....and in anticipation of the comments this opion will get, it should never be a case of them and us in different branches of medicine, it should be working together for the benefit of the patient. - guardian N

Question 2
Has anyone watched the news latley about the "Big Pharma"?...  I was watching world news and they said that the "Big Pharma" has been over charging Medicaid and medicare and giving the difference to the doctors. And now they are being sued for 300 million dollars. WTF! Now do you people really think that they are in it for our health are our money? Goes to show what I've been saying to these skeptics all along. And they think we stupid. HA! Open your mind skeptics and you will see the big picture. And you will know the cause.

1)   Where have you been?? This is not new.... there are so many things going on that if people would just do a bit of research for themselves instead of being soaked in self indulgence they would see that there are many things like this!! Drug companies are not int the business of keeping you well... they are in the business of making money. Seed companies that manufacture genetically modified seeds are not in the business of keeping you healthy... they are in the business to make money. Banks are not in the business to assist you financially.... they are in the business to make money. Follow the money trail.... always follow the money trail... it is there that you will find the truth... - shortstuff

2)   I'm not aware what story you are referring to. Can you provide a link?

However, from what you've said; something underhanded/illegal/fraudulent MAY have been going on...it's been found out and action is being taken. Your point?

Are you suggesting that this means everything "big pharma" does is wrong, all Doctors are corrupt and therefore conventional medicine is bad? If so, automatic fail.

"Now do you people really think that they are in it for our health are our money?"

Do Alt.med practitioners aka snake oil salesmen, provide their services free of charge? Alt.med is a multi billion dollar industry- most of it unregulated.
It isn't wrong that someone stands to make money from something. This does not mean it is bad.

We keep pointing out the fallacies in your arguments and you just keep hitting us back with the same illogical questions. Get a grip please, KTC.

@ Nosey: The point is, one possible case of fraud, does not mean all
Pharmaceutical drugs are bad and "don't save lives." This is simply non sequiter.

Conventional medicine does manage many chronic diseases and illnesses. Ex. Many asthmatics and diabetics wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for conventional drugs. Show me evidence that alt.med has EVER altered the course of type 1 or 2 diabetes or asthma? FYI diet and lifestyle advice ISN'T alternative.

"Tim Bolen's site Quackpotwatch exposes the skeppies for what they really are"

And what's that then, Nosey? By definition, skeptics are people who require evidence before they accept a claim that something works or exists. The moment you start speculating about what else it means and what else we are, is the moment you fail your argument.

"...some lowlife media types hired by the drug companies tried to pull a smoke and mirrors job about "alternative medicine" "

Evidence please.

"Skeppies aren't interested in facts, just their own brand of disinformation."

Oh the irony. Actually we are the only ones interested in facts. Its your ilk who ignores the facts. The truth is inconvenient to those with a hidden agenda...

3)   Well that convinces me. Everyone should go off their life supporting medication and switch to acupuncture and crystals immediately. - Gary Y

4)   This is the REAL health care fraud, or should I say sick care fraud.
Pharmaceutical drugs don't save lives. Apart from emergency interventions, alll drugs do is create more chronic illness in people who are already sick.
Tim Bolen's site Quackpotwatch exposes the skeppies for what they really are and how some lowlife media types hired by the drug companies tried to pull a smoke and mirrors job about "alternative medicine" being the culprit in health fraud instead.
Skeppies aren't interested in facts, just their own brand of disinformation. - thenoseknows

5)   Personally I'm happy to have my health care provided by a company that operates at a profit.

Puma does not care about my feet. They just make great boots so that I'll buy them and not a rubbish pair.

Alpha Romeo doesn't care about how fast I get somewhere they just make a great car for the money that brings them (if only any of the electrics worked for more than two minutes).

All the best things we have are made by corporations including i'm sure, the computer you are using today. Are you worried that BIG PC is raising prices to make a profit.

Clearly if they have been breaking the law then they need to brought into line. But you feel that they should make no money whatsoever. you're a little boy who doesn't understand how the big boy world works.
Big Pharma, as you call it MAKES MONEY. If you took them away we wouldn't suddenly start getting free health care. They would just leave a gap.

Look, I'm happy to split the world in two. One half with no Alt Med and one half with only Alt Med. I know where i'd go and I'd be happy to let you go to the other. but leave your children here, They deserve actual medicine.

@ JLI --- BAM!! great point.

All you're doing is showing that when Pharma steps out of line they are punished for it OWN GOAL!!! - Angelhil

6)   So you are saying that it is big news that "Big Pharma" can't get away with foul play? Please pay attention to who expose and deal with them. And remember also that foul play by "Big Pharma" has been exposed and handled by the conventional system before.

EDIT:
Thank you Angelhil. One could only wish, that the altie-system would be equally open to deal with serious misconduct within their own ranks. - JLI

7)   KTC likes to distort things....it was the HOSPITALS that received the preferred pricing....not "the doctors"....huge difference......the HOSPITAL is operated by BUSINESSPERSONS......

Oh, BTW - you never have revealed what the CURE for diabetes is.....or MS.......just to name two of the things that you have claimed knowledge of....How about sharing???

4)   That's actually very simple to do. Intake only enough calories that you need for the lifestyle that you live. Pick up a hobby that is active. Hiking through parks, bike riding, get a dog and jog with him/her. - Devon

5)   Humans are genetically constructed for food shortages, hence we tend to seek out foods with high food value (ie calorie-intense) as a preference over low energy foods as a means of survival. Social and economic forces have contributed to creating an environment and a lifestyle where fewer calories are burned. Obesity isn't an illness that needs treating, it's just the way we are.

You might try the GI way of eating if you're trying to control your weight. It looks at ways to mkae the body feel fuller longer by eating foods which release energy more slowly. - Sophie

There are some people (probably those who are morbidly obese) who may have an actual psychological "addiction" to food. This isn't very well recognized in medicine and evidence for it is lacking. CBT, may be of benefit here. However, evidence is lacking.

1)   Gargling salt water.

It works for me every time, giving instant relief from a sore throat. I think it's because the salt water kills bacteria in the mouth and throat.

5)   There have actually been a lot of studies that have shown that Fish Oil can help with ADD/ADHD. It seems too simple, and that may be one reason it wasn't really looked at closely for this, but I wasn't surprised it would help when I thought about it. The EPA and DHA in Fish Oil help with all sorts of things including heart health, skin health, and brain health. There was a good article at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-391503/Fish-oil-calms-children-better-Ritalin.html that covers some of this as well.
Give it a try... it's economical, safe, and easy. Just make sure that the company you get it from uses Molecular Distillation because that's currently the only safe way to remove any trace contaminants of any heavy metals. Of course, if you aren't sure about the dosage or the benefits, you may want to consult with a holistic doctor, as they may have other additional options available to them.

There are also a lot of people who have found some relief from limiting sugar, artificial colors/flavorings, and going with less (or no) processed food to take away those possible causes as well. From research I've done, Fish Oil tends to help more, but both work even better together. Good luck and I hope I helped! - oldtimekid2

Why isn't homeopathy more popular?

Question 1
Why isn't homeopathy more popular?...  Somebody with a Nose recently made the startling claim that:
"Homeopathy is today the most successful form of treatment for acute and chronic illness.....", and "To date there are at least 25,000 volumes of homeopathic cured cases. Conventional medicine hasn't successfully cured anything in the same time period."

If it's so successful, why is the UK health service withdrawing funding for it? If it works so well for "acute and chronic illness" why do the world's top hospitals ignore it?

Where can I see the "25,000 volumes of homeopathic cured cases" ? Is it true that in the same time period conventional medicine hasn't successfully cured ANYTHING?

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akrf88D4W8E.CEBNW.oay_GDKXRG;_ylv=3?qid=20101205234244AADEJkH

Is there any hope that homeopathy can be used to treat mental illness?
So Nosey, no substantiation for these ridiculous claims then?
Thanks Sam but I'm concerned that its never been shown to work by anyone, ever. Do you think that could affect its popularity?

Answers
1)   Mostly it is the" time" that takes more to cure. - krk

2)   ahhh the infamous "plethora of evidence" made so famous by the British chiropractic society who were then unable to produce any of the evidence at the high court hearing to support their claim. - Nitram

3)   More popular than what? Conventional medicine? It's the competition, allopathic medicine that's essentially being run by the drug companies. There's too much money at stake. So conventional medical schools are not teaching homeopathy. That's why.
In India, almost all doctors are trained in both. Over 60% of people in France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and others, routinely use homeopathy.
The U.K. is NOT withdrawing funding from the NHS. People won't stand for it and it's guaranteed by the charter.
More hospitals are going integrative and you'll see even more of it in the near future, especially in the U.S. and Canada. Plastic surgeons routinely use homeopathic remedies like Arnica and Hypericum to reduce swelling and pain.
Homeopathy still rates as the second largest modality of treatment used worldwide.
I'd say that's pretty "popular". - thenoseknows

4)   Because of the conspiracy. Basically big Pharma find the time to trawl backwater internet forums and place people like me to post answers rubbishing Homeopathy. They also pay other people to post silly answers in support of homeopathy so that people laugh at them and don't take it seriously. (not thunder but....)

@Nosey.. I think you'll find that your precious homeopathic hospitals are losing funding in that referals will no longer be paid for to London and Edinburgh - Angelhil

5)   This is what think:

It's all about the money, homeopathy is cheap and effective, it would take away the business from the modern conventional medicine groups. Also homeopathy has little or no side effects further loss to big business medicine. Cancer treatment is another huge money maker, while natural med. is far more effective and the cost is pennies to remedy. They have made those treatments illegal by claiming it contains poison,,. well duhhh! Just about ever med. produced in big drug company seem to have a warning label "This drug could kill you" but they can get away with it because they have the law makers in their back pocket!! - Sam

6)   Nosey frequently makes these ridiculous claims, but never substantiates her claims with evidence Instead, we are presented with a long line of fallacious excuses.

"More popular than what? Conventional medicine? It's the competition, allopathic medicine that's essentially being run by the drug companies. There's too much money at stake. So conventional medical schools are not teaching homeopathy. That's why."

Er...no. Medical schools do not teach homeopathy because it does not work. It lacks scientific plausibility and it's never worked beyond placebo in any high quality trial. Why would medical schools train Doctors in activites that don't work and contradict everything we know about science? Alt.Med represents a multi-billion dollar industry, yet despite this, the alties do not seem to understand the basic principles of business: If homeopathy worked, Pharma would love to deal with it, they could churn it out at little cost and make almost infinite profits. The NHS is a publicly funded health care system, if magic water worked, it would save the tax payer billions.

"In India, almost all doctors are trained in both. "

A third world, poor, backward country. Explain why most of the developed countries don't favor homeopathy.

"Over 60% of people in France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and others, routinely use homeopathy."

Popularity does not demonstrate efficacy. This means nothing. And evidence for this statistic please.

"The U.K. is NOT withdrawing funding from the NHS. People won't stand for it and it's guaranteed by the charter."

There were 5 homeopathic clinics in the UK, now only 4 remain and gradually more and more trusts are refusing funding for Homeopathy. Please explain why the majority of our hospitals ignore Homeopathy if it is so effective?

"Plastic surgeons routinely use homeopathic remedies like Arnica and Hypericum to reduce swelling and pain."

Really? My father is a plastic surgeon and has never used such "remedies". Evidence for this claim please. Note, Arnica isn't homeopathic unless it's in homeopathic preparation.

Finally, as has already been requested, please provide evidence that, "Homeopathy is today the most successful form of treatment for acute and chronic illness.....", and "To date there are at least 25,000 volumes of homeopathic cured cases." WHERE? - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

Question 2
What are some natural remedies for sleep insomnia?...  What are some natural remedies for sleep insomnia? I'm trying not to become too reliant on my sleeping pills but things aren't looking very well. I'm going on day 5 day now with very little rest.

Answers
1)   I'm sure you've heard all the 'experts' giving sleep advice: turn off the tv before bedtime, no physical activity (gym) in early evening hours... warm milk, hot bath, etc.. you can try melatonin which is a natural hormone (health food stores carry it). We all have melatonin in our system, but the strength of it starts to decrease by the time we're 30, which is why it's harder for adults to sleep... teens and younger kids have a ton of melatonin in their brains!
Good Luck. - Shptludrop

2)   You can also try "Sleep Well". It contains Semen Ziziphi Spinosae. Semen Ziziphi Spinosae is a natural Chinese herb that soothes the nerves, calm your mind and helps you sleep. It is safe and reliable. It does not have adverse side effects and will not cause dependence.

You just need to dissolve 2 packs of granules in 200ml of hot water and stir well before consuming.

Lastly, please read the following article. It might give you some other suggestions.

3)   yogurt is good, the sourer the better. you can dissolve some sour yogurt in cool water, add some salt and dried mint leaves. this drink is called Doogh, and it is very soothing. Add some ice.

Oxtongue flower tea is very calming, but I don't know if you can find some.

you can eat some coriander or coriander seeds. cook some fresh fish like this, the fish should have some fat, no fat fish like tuna is not good and I don't know about the fish you can obtain in your area: cut the fish open from the back, not the stomach, clean its inside, add some sea salt and let it be for a while (quarter an hour) take an onion and some garlic, cut them into fine pieces or grind then by a food processor. get some coriander, clean and wash it, cut it into fine pieces (you can use food processor again), mix it with onion and garlic, add pepper and spices as you wish, but don't use too much pepper and spice. use some tamarind syrup for a sweet-sour taste, if not available you can use Sour Orange juice or lemon juice, but tamarind syrup is recommended.
lay the fish flat on oven tray, insides upward. put the mixture in a half centimeter layer on the fish meat all over it. pre heat the oven at 240C. Cook for 15-20 minutes until vegetables are cooked. Eat hot with white rice.
Fatty fish and coriander with garlic, makes me and every one I know to sleep at the table!

more important than what you take, is what u shouldn't: No black or green tea, no coffee (unless decaf), no chocolate or cacao of any sort, no tobacco (smoked or chewed), no alcohol, no Cola drinks (they have caffeine), stay away from sugar and sweet foods. - lind_bookworm

4)   about it you can get information from here http://canmdh25.notlong.com/AAHutBh - Tonita Sasao

5)   You should use zolpidem, it is the best about it you can get information from here http://usmedans30.notlong.com/3AAHutB - Madelaine Zall

1)   I love a bargain as much as anyone and I used to love all the cheap stuff I could find on eBay, but nowadays it seems so hard to find anything cheap over there and just when we're all finding it tougher to just pay our bills. I don't give up so I was looking for someplace online where I could still find myself a bargain... and by accident I came across this site I never heard of before where you get rock bottom prices from police impounded stuff, I mean I was worried about scams but this stuff is actually real and I got some real cheap stuff there... it's become my new eBay lol! Go to WinItems.com - Toshiko Snapper

2)   any multi with iron. make sure it contains calcium, and the daily recommended dosage of vitamin D. the D helps with calcium absorption. all women need iron. don,t fall for the mega vitamin scam. your body can only use so much at one time. drink lots of water. - David

The nutriphysical is basically a quiz and is free to take. it will ask you a series of questions about your habits, your diet and your areas of complaint. it will then suggest the vitamins that you might be depleted in. you dont have to necessarily buy from the site but it gives you an idea of what to look for at the drug store.

Question 4
What happens if you're filled with more blood than your body is supposed to hold?...  If I had the normal amount of blood in my system (like I do now) to be able to function normally, and then a person forced blood into my system, causing me to have an excess amount of blood in my system.

What would happen? Would my veins explode due to so much pressure, and then I would bleed to death from the inside?

Answers
1)   I think the human body can handle about 10 psi before it explodes - Sasha Puchinsky

2)   High blood pressure i think and no you would not explode for sure. - Christine Keller

3)   Our body has compensatory mechanisms to control what is called "fluid overload." The veins don't explode- they are actually very stretchy. But they will get bigger and blood will leak out from the veins. First, the kidneys respond by filtering out as much water as possible. This means you would start peeing a lot more than usual. If there is still too much fluid in the body, it will shift out of the veins and into the surrounding tissues. You would notice swelling in your feet, ankles, hands, and face. If the fluid problem was not corrected, fluid will build up in the abdomen and your belly will swell. What will eventually kill you is when blood backs up into the lungs because there is no where else for it to go. It's like being underwater because your lungs can't exchange air anymore. - Nurse Ashlina

4)   when you have extra neutreints or (blood which have neutrients) in your body some of it is stored as fat and the rest come out as waste - kc

5)   Actually, some athletes have done what's called "blood doping" (transfusing their own blood and storing it for a later time close to a competition and then having it transfused back into their own body again).
It's not possible for your body to make more blood than it has unless some is removed first.
If it was possible, you'd probably have a heart attack before anything else happened. Arteries are very elastic. - thenoseknows

Question 5
What health issues relate to alternative and complementary health services?...  For example - there's no evidence of them being effective.
What else?

Answers
1)   1. Practitioners of alt med are typically science-illiterate or have educations that come from unaccredited diploma mill schools.
2. They can keep persons who are ill from getting the correct kind of medical help. Delay of medical care can be fatal.

edit: I'd like to address an issue brought up by our resident clown Know the Cause. Modern medicine is expensive not because there's a conspiracy to keep people sick. It is expensive because it's expensive to do research for new drugs and surgeries and diagnostic tests. It's not because of the medical practitioners like doctors and dentists, etc. If alties want to blame someone or something for the high cost of medical care, they should blame the capitalist system. As for me, I don't like it that medical care is expensive but I have no choice. If I had the power to change it I would. Also, alternative medicine is sure as hell not the answer to high costs of care. - angrydoc

2)   What doc said. I'll add they con you from your money by peddling their useless treatments for which there is not a jot of evidence. So you end up not only less healthy but also much poorer. - Nitram

3)   Delay in treatment can prevent or delay correct treatment.

Most are unqualified and uneducated to diagnose correctly.

Most pretend to be doctors using terms such as 'Doctor of Naturopathy' which is an unrecognised term. The illusion is completed with a white coat meaning the lay person has no idea they're being treated by a fake doctor.

It gives false hope to terminally ill patients and their families, relieving them of their money in their dying days.

'Medical advice' is frequently incorrect.

There is the promotion of quack 'treatments' that have no benefits whatsoever.

Deliberate false diagnosis (such as the no-symptoms candida for example) allows similarly fake treatments to be prescribed and then the announcement of fake 'cures' to be made. This reinforces in the innocent customers mind that the practitioner is effective, allowing them to be open to further fake diagnosis and treatments, thus perpetuating the income stream. - dave

4)   What a bunch of HOGWASH from these skeptics. With a little common sense you can see right through em. Talking about coning people out of their money. How does a $750,000 heart transplant sound. Tell that to the poor elderly that don't even have enough to eat because of their high cost of prescription drugs that only keep them in a perpetual state of sickness, And the only reason these meds and operations are so high is because you money hungry idiots know that they'll pay it to keep em alive and you're toxins flowing Thur their bodies because you say only drugs can cure disease. What a bunch of HIPPOCRATES you are. You people make me so sick it ain't funny. Why is it that doctors have only a few hours of preventive medicine training. I'll tell you why! Because the "BIG PHARMA" pays for most of your education and they tell them in so many words "IT'S NOT PROFITABLE! Keep em sick and we'll all be rich! I can't understand how someone with half a brain can believe that unnatural toxins in the body is better than natural. Mainstream meds are o.k. when things have gotten too far and you need relief. BUT THAT'S ALL! Bunch of smart @$$e$.
Edit: And you know what else makes me sick. Creating additional accounts on here so that they can answer their own questions and then congratulate each other on being GODS. MAKES ME SICK. - Know the Cause

5)   The notion that there's no evidence of them being effective is a total fabrication.
The same health issues that arise in the allopathic sick care system are dealth with by holistic medicine as prevention and the healing of the whole person, not just the suppression of individual symptoms.
80% of conventional medicine is not evidence based. For skeppies to make silly claims about other forms of medicine is a strange obsession not borne out by facts.

Edit: Most people who use holistic medicine are better educated than those who blindly run to MD's every time they get a cold. They're also educated enough to check the credentials of the practitioners they go to, or deny the ambulance trip to an emergency room if they're in a car accident... so someone's funny little mission statement about delayed treatment etc. is quite a crock. And someone with a chronic illness like fibromyalgia is not going to have a life threatening event at their Homeopath's unless they have a heart attack relating how peeved they are at conventional medicine.
Pharma drugs mostly don't save lives, they make people's quality of life miserable and just lead to more drug use to address the negative side effects of the first toxic junk they took.
Your family MD is just prescribing whatever for you based on practise directives that are now dictated by the drug companies. MD's who do think for themselves get out of conventional medicine and become Naturopaths and Homeopaths. - thenoseknows
