Is this the end of homeopathy in Japan?... Homeopathy supporters like to use the oft repeated mantra that 'homeopathy is harmless'. There is however increasing reports of the dangers to those who use homeopathy in neglect of proper medical care:
"The Japanese government is investigating numerous deaths that occurred over the past year resulting from the practice of homeopathy, which has been growing in popularity, particularly among midwives. Several lawsuits are pending.
Deaths include a 2-month-old baby girl born with a vitamin K deficiency, whose mother's midwife administered a homeopathic treatment instead of the much-needed vitamin K injection, well-known to prevent hemorrhaging. The infant died from bleeding in the skull.
As more cases surface, the nation's top science group, the Science Council of Japan, has weighed in, with its president, Ichiro Kanazawa, stating at a press conference on Aug. 24 that "homeopathy's therapeutic value has been scientifically and utterly disproved." Homeopathy treatments are nothing more than sugar pills, he said.
Japan may soon join Switzerland and Germany, where governments have concluded that homeopathy is ineffective""

So, do you think Japan will join Germany and Switzerland in concluding that homeopathy is ineffective at best and at worst, has the potential for harm?

Answers
1) I certainly hope so, all it is is an expensive placebo effect at best.
@Lobbs - Because they often dont take proper medication, take some homeopathy rubbish instead, then can die because they needed certain medication, as in the examples above.
Homeopathy and Horoscopes - we should have evolved out of stuff like that, doesn't bode well for the human race that these things not only exist, but people will defend them, laughable really. - The Guv
2) How can you die from tiny amounts of water? - Lobbs
3) Weird game shows (and porn?), anime, great gadgets and toys and now this?
Japan is awesome. - angrydoc
4) It is not homeopathy that is harmful but one persons decision to take inappropriate action. Surely the midwife was not in a position to diagnose - something which in the UK only a doctor is allowed to do. And why would a mother allow a midwife to treat their baby. Clearly there are other issues here. 10,000 a year die in the UK alone from adverse drug reactions and the medical profession (including drugs) is the fourth most common cause of premature death in both the UK and the USA. The medical profession is right up there with heart disease and cancers yet it is a statistic we very rarely see. - LillyB
5) It certainly sounds like it may be, that would certainly be great. However homeopathy should be long gone, it was disproven a long time ago. Japan has also been looking at changing policy on homeopathy. The major reason most countries have not banned public money from being spent on it or even regulating it is because homeopathy has become more of a political issue than a scientific one. Politicians hate to lose votes and unless a crisis, like Japan and Australia have had (especially when kids die), nothing is likely to happen. But don't count on changes too quickly.
Also keep in mind that many countries like Belgium, Taiwan, most of Canada, and The US do NOT cover homeopathy. There were also great changes in Northern Ireland, and The National Health Service (NHS), The American Medical Association (AMA), The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), even The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), part of The National Institutes of Health (NIH), and who can forget the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee report on homeopathy. - Mathieu
6) The 20% - give or take - of healed people will swear on it.
Rain or shine - and that is, what is important!
As I always said before, homoeopathy is a science, which should only be, in the hands of skilled professionals.
Experts who do study this subject for more years than any Bc of medical science does.
The mistakes in homoeopathic treatment are done only by the unskilled amateurs.
And that is the biggest problem.
When anyone with one or two years study course thinks he or she is an expert in this very complex and difficult science.
Same as an acupuncture - only the master of it can heal.
The amateurs will be the downfall of homoeopathy. - Avicenna
7) Hopefully they will. It must not be forgotten that to delay or avoid proven conventional therapies, thus delaying active medical management, is a risk to health. And while even conventional medicine can be dangerous in incorrect amounts and in the wrong hands, it must be remembered that where homeopathy is concerned there is no demonstrated evidence of efficacy, which just leaves you with the negatives. Conventional medicine saves lives.
Obviously that Midwife was grossly negligent and made an unforgiving error in judgment. Basic high school science should have told her that there is no way Homeopathy could be of any benefit in that situation.
This sort of thing is common in the UK too. And Midwives commonly subscribe to woo more than most other allied health care professions. There is a healing hands brigade at my hospital too.
=============================================
Edit: No Avicenna. Homeopathy is NOT a science, it's a scientific fraud and a very dangerous one too.
=============================================
Edit: LillyB: Stop lying, your data is incorrect and the point you are making is a fallacious one. With regards to drug deaths, how many would have died anyway? If a diabetic dies from hypoglycemia as a result of insulin, this is technically an adverse drug reaction, but yet without the insulin the patient would die anyway.
And you are quite clearly stupid. Even if conventional medicine killed everyone, this STILL does not demonstrate efficacy of AltMed. You cannot say one is better than the other simply because less people die as a result, water is harmless, but it's useless too. You have to take into account how many lives conventional medicine saves in comparison.
=============================================
Edit: Sorry NA but you've used the same fallacious argument fail as LillyB clearly you lack the ability to access risk/benefit ratios.
Edit
No, you're missing the point. It makes no difference who published that data. Even if we assume these numbers are accurate, this is irrelevant. You have to include the denominator, which you've failed to do. - Rhianna

Question 2
Is the Drug SPEED addicting?... Yes or No and if so emotionally or physically?
Answers
1) Yes it,s addictive and with all addictions it can affect the addict both mentally and physically
mental symptoms = paranoia, anxiety, depression, delusions and hallucinations
physical symptoms= shakes, hot and cold sweats and a decreased appetite leading to rapid weight loss.
@Mathieu least i talk about experience i dont copy and paste out a effing book. - AlbaGuBrathMan
2) yes Amphetamine ['speed'] emotionally and psychically addictive. - geriann81
3) "Speed" better known as dextroamphetamine is a drug with a high potential for abuse.
Amphetamines are not "physically addicting." Also physical dependence, the technical term is not a type of addiction, it is a completely different thing although physical dependence does commonly occur in people addictive to certain drugs primarly opioids, benzodiazepines, alcohol, and barbiturates. Some drugs with no recreational value (corticosteroids, beta-blockers, nasal sprays like oxymetazoline) can cause physical dependency.
So dextroamphetamine is a highly addictive (psychological dependence). It does not produce psychical dependence.
Some correct definitions:
Abuse and addiction are separate and distinct from physical dependence and tolerance. Abuse is characterized by misuse of the drug for non-medical purposes, often in combination with other psychoactive substances.
Addiction aka PSYCHOLOGICAL dependence is a primary, chronic, neurobiological disease with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. It is characterized by behaviors that include one or more of the following: loss of control over drug use, compulsive use, continued use despite harm, and craving. Drug addiction is a treatable disease, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, but relapse is common. - Mathieu
4) it's not all that addicting, doctors do prescribe watered down versions of it to children as ADD medicine - John Madden

Question 3
whats the best way to quit smoking ?... i have done it before i just need to do it again and im having a hard time this time....
Answers
1) m, it's not that difficult :)
get rid of all the cigarettes u have in ur home
then don't buy them again ^^ that is all
wish u luck ^-^ - cherry
2) cold turkey. it sucks but it really is just a decision get out a piece of paper write i will never smoke ciggarettes again sign it make copies of it and post them around where you used to smoke.. when you get a craving you can tell your self that you dont smoke anymore so tell the craving to F***K off because you are strong and you dont need to have a cigarette its just a craving go chew a piece of gum or something.. you will not give in write a list of things you can do besides smoke. it will be hard but worth it in the end! do not crack just remind yourself that plety of people have quit before and you need to quit before it gives you lung cancer or other crap google the negative effects of smoking and nasty lungs and post them around your house major turn off. I used to smoke 2packs a day and now im finally free!!!!!!!!!1 if i can do it so can you.. Good luckk!!! also make a jar and put te money you would be spending on cigs in there in a year youll have a hit load of money and you can treat yourself to something special! you can do it. remeeber its just a craving get your mind off it and go for a walk or something. - Gs G
3) First off, congratulations for WANTING to quit smoking!!
As far as answering, there are a lot of ways, and it also depends on how much you've been smoking. The best ways are slowly lowering your dose (takes a long time sometimes), or going cold turkey (which is faster, but harder). Either way, the last thing is making the decision to quit, so you'll eventually have to deal with the withdrawal.
For the most part, when you deal with withdrawal, you'll just have to tough it out, but there are some things that can help cleanse out the toxins and may help to minimize some of the effects of withdrawal...
Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it's not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).
All that being said, it's likely that the symptoms should stop relatively shortly after your last smoke (it's never as long as it feels like it is). Your neurotransmitters don't take too terribly long to scream for something they are addicted to after you stop.
Another important thing to note is that no matter how bad it gets, taking more of the drug (and yes, nicotine is a drug) will only make the withdrawal last longer and will be harder on you in the long run. Good luck, and congrats again! - Angelica Joanne
4) Try quitting by using an electronic cigarette as an aid. The electronic cigarette was actually developed as a quit smoking aid, but it had taken on a life of its own. However, the success rate is remarkable, and a high as cold turnkey (about 30-33%) vs. 3% for the patch. An electronic cigarette helps you deal with a lot of the issues -- something to do with your hands, oral fixation, etc. -- while you are quitting. My 86 year old neighbor -- a smoker for 69 years who had tried unsuccessfully dozens of times -- finally quit using electronic cigarettes There are a few brands out there and also a few charlatans. A lot of people find the Firelight highly favorable in size, weight, usage, price, and customer service. - Auntie Anne Arkey

Question 5
Does anyone know of a natural all in one pill for high blood pressure?... My boyfriend has high blood pressure and does not want to have to take all kinds of medicine to lower it. I have looked up natural remedies and found about a million suggestions so far....my question is this....does anyone know of ONE "blend" or formula of natural herbs/vitamins that will help lower his BP without buying 50 different bottles of supplements? Any help or suggestions on this matter would be greatly appreciated!
Answers
1) No alcohol, regular cardiovascular exercise, no added salt and lose excess weight. - Robert
2) The reason there are so many suggestions on what "natural" remedy to take for hypertension is because no one knows for sure if they really work. They either have not been studied, are still being studied, or have been studied and have been found not to work. Be careful because you might end up wasting money on these natural remedies. Pharmaceutical drugs on the other hand have been studied, found to be effective and their safety profile is known.
Your boyfriend can try to lower his blood pressure first by doing lifestyle modifications. Eating a low salt, low fat diet for example. Getting regular exercise is another. Reducing alcohol intake is another one. Does he smoke? Then he should stop smoking too.
Give these measures 3-6 months and monitor his bp. If it's still high, then he really needs to go on blood pressure medication. Untreated high blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and many others.
Good luck! Always have a skeptical and critical mind! - angrydoc
3) If I where him I would take this one herb, it has very many positive testomonials, it's cheap and it works! Check it out right here. You have to be a member to view the entire article, but I'm sure you can google the name and you'll find it somewhere where you can view all of the info.
it is not, and I repeat not, a good idea to take hb pressure medication, it can literaly kill you, and you're hooked for life, once your hooked, theres no getting off. If you don't believe me, google it.
Note: This is an alternative solution to perscription drugs, but should not be the only treatment to rely on. A combination of good diet (less carbs and fat), more excercise and less stress all play an important role on getting rid of high blood pressure.
