Why don't insurance companies insure holistic doctors?... It's kinda sad to me.. That the only doctors they will insure for are doctors that prescribe drugs. Is there any insurance companies that work for holistic doctors?

1) Until the 'Quack & Snake Oil Insurance Company' sets itself up, I would doubt that any serious financial institution would take these fakers seriously. - Superdog
2) I assume you are talking about people who call themselves doctors, but try to sell people on their "detox" regimens, or vitamin supplements. These quacks don't have evidence on their side. Real medicine works. "Detox" cleansers and the like don;t work any better than a placebo. Insurance is to make sure when bad stuff happens that when the patient sues, the doctor or hospital doesn't go out of business. The holistic "doctor" would be sued so many times for his regimens not working, the insurance company would lose money on their investment and not to mention all those people who didn't get better on the holistic "doctor's" "medicine, they'd just end up at a real doctor anyway. - Thomas
3) That's just not true. Every employer has to have workplace insurance, and insurance will be available for any business operator for 3rd party professional indemnity if he hunts around for it.

Doc, Rhianna and a few others
I think the OP is talking about indemnity insurance etc. for the practitioner. Not medical insurance paying for treatment.
It's total nonsense that these quacks are unable to get insurance, as Lightening has pointed out he has such cover. - Nitram
4) the insurance industry is sustained by the public's fear of loss. it needs a form of sickness treatment which tends to be so expensive that people will fear that if they get sick, they will incur treatment costs so high that they know they may be financially ruined without insurance coverage. medicine just fits the bill. the irony is, even with insurance, many end up being bankrupted anyway, and for all their expense being left in worse health than before treatment began. - Mr E
5) healthquotes.awardspace.info - here is my health insurance plan. As I remember they can provide such a service. - Mario
6) Like all greedy corporations, insurance companies like to make money. They don't like wasting money. Therefore they will not pay for treatments that do not have evidence of working. If insurers decide to cover alt med, they'll end up paying the quacks AND the real doctor who will fix the problem later when the patient realizes he'd been scammed by alt med. Not a good business plan. - angrydoc
7) Because insurance companies like to make money, not waste it. Funding sCAM will leave the person medically untreated, this isn't cost effective in the long-term. - Rhianna
8) The main reason is the American Medical Association has a stranglehold on the medical industry and the government. The AMA has squashed holistic medical teaching in the US.

There are insurance companies that are not quite insurance companies, but they operate somewhat similar to them. Typically they are Christian based. Having read some of their literature in the past, I believe some of them are probably open to alternative care.
Here is an example. There are more out there to search for.

9) It's a kind of spiritual incesf. When you are even just a little clairvoyant, you can clearly see it. But don't worry, times will change.
This and other systems of abuse, related to institutions with false authority, will lose their power in time. That may mean insurance companies will much less insure both. That would be a very good thing, people may rely on their own authority/indepedence again and work together in informal groups,
But before this can happen, we need to experience the other polarity, the truth of extreme stupidity. The presence of the skepticks and their high quality peer reviewed answers in this section is a prove of this. - SmartAss
10) I'm an Osteopath, I don't prescribe any drugs at all and practice as holistically as I can. I havn't had a problem buying insurance in 2 countries I've practiced in. Its not expensive either. - Lightning
11) they think it is cheaper to wait till the person gets sick then give them a pill and hope for a psychological fix. i get sick of hearing insurance companies and idiots saying that holistic health is psychological fix. all the medicines that work were brought out by homeopathic medicine. if people would demand alternative medicine, the insurance companies would give us what we want. - John Whittington
12) Because many of them are quacks. If the FDA don't approve of them, there are billions of people who've been misled and are wasting money on frauds and they can't control each one of them, why should doctors?
Have you done a Google search? My dh works for an insurance co. and he said, he's pretty sure there's probably one, depends on the insurance co. - Seeya
13) I don't know why they don't insure holistic doctors, but
I do know why they insure allopathic doctors.
Because allopathy doesn't work.
If you buy something,
and it doesn't work,
of course you want your money back.
This is an indirect mechanism for this to happen. - FDA

3) Not so much a home remedy, but a good natural remedy is Vinpocetine. You'll probably have to get someone else to get you a bottle from your local health food store, but it works really well for Vertigo and dizziness. I've also heard of people using hypnosis or therapy (like desensitization things, for example), but that's not something you can easily do at home. For the long-term, you could check those out, but Vinpocetine can definitely help short-term. Good luck and I hope I helped! - oldtimekid2
