Are chiropractors really legit?

Question 1
Are chiropractors really legit?...  I've heard different stories from different people. My mom visits a chiropractor weekly, but she's also into weird new-age spiritual stuff so I'm doubtful. On the other hand, my dad and the rest of the world never cease to make cracks about them.

Answers

2)   I know many people who have had back problems, went to a Chiropractor, and were cured of those problems forever. There are plenty of websites, and be assured that it takes 4+ years of medical school to become a Chiro. There is also a professional organization that polices the industry, to make sure that Chiros are following the right procedures & treating their patients ethically & fairly.

You should choose a Chiropractor that has been practicing atleast 10 years, who has had hundreds of clients. Make sure that Chiro has never had a complaint filed against them. If you are really paranoid & do not trust easily, then inquire with the Chiro about referrals from current patients.

Keep in mind that your back is a neural network by which your brain is able to communicate with the rest of your body. Chiros correct your back, by making sure your SPINE is 100% correct in alignment. If you have Scholiosis, then a Chiro will try to correct that. If you have a car accident, a Chiro will make sure none of the discs are damaged or have slipped. Chiros very often will contact a specialist if they see any nerve damage has occurred.

A Chiropractors primary job is to set your back STRAIGHT. That's it. They don't do surgery. They don't push/pull things back into place. They set your spine to its correct placement. - TheWhiteEasyChair

3)   there is very little supervision when it comes to a chiropractors training. that is theres little to no error analysis, research done, etc. so there really relying on age old techniques that were used thousands of years that have otherwise been outdated by modern medicine. personally i dont feel comfortable with them because there are a vast number of them that are sly and once they start messing with your back theres really no going back, (no pun intended) they've got you hooked.

and you look at like a herniated disk can be fixed at a orthopedic surgeon or specialist with a little assessment and maybe a minimally invasive cut if they dont give you some other method. most insurance companies will cover it with no co pay or overhead to you.

your playing a trust game with a lifelong commitment. don't go unless you know the chiropractor personally. otherwise a trip to a local medical center will fix you right up with a more modern tech. the spine is serious business, dont get messed around with. - AndrewGhostLCL

4)   Make CRACKS about them, that's funny.
yes they can help, but not always all their cracked up to be and can be flippin dangerous , oif you have a back injury and they are the gung hoe type. - Andyboy

5)   Chiropractors are really legit. Their focus is not necessarily medically primarily (meaning you don't see them when you have a cold), rather the physical body such as making sure your bones are aligned and your muscles are working properly. They must have an advanced degree, meaning at least six years of study beyond high school. I have a rib that pops out of place and can make breathing difficult. My chiro can pop it back into place. He also makes sure my head is sitting properly so I don't get as many headaches. My hip rotates outwards as well at times, which he can move back into place. My 10 year old has been to the chiro, as the benefits of a physical from a chiro can help make sure growth isn't too hard on his bones. I would suggest going and seeing one, or observing when your mom goes. My chiro is really laid back and explains everything. - watchinoveru

6)   The thing is in the US there's a wide-range of therapists that call themselves Chiropractors, you have very practical ones(they mostly just stick to making you right physically, realigning your skeleton, and giving you exercises, to keep it right), but there's also some quite out there therapists calling themselves Chiropractors.
Over here in Europe it's only the practical ones(bone-crackers they're called too, mine's really good, doesn't crack the bones, just adjusts 'em), calling themselves Chiropractors. The other ones usually go by naturalistic healers, or something.

The practical ones are definitely legit, they're like physical therapy, at a much higher, more precise holistic level. Taking care of the entire body, by making sure it's in the correct shape, and making sure it moves as efficiently as possible.

The more out there ones can help people, but you have to keep an eye out, they remain effective, because that sometimes seems to be secondary in their treatment. And you have to look at if it's more mental support, or that they actually do the physical adjustments too. - BigNeil

7)   Chiropractic may give temporary relief for lower back pain. But that's it.

As you suspect, the idea that misalignment of the spine is a satisfactory explanation for (almost) every disease is wrong. And it is consequently wrong that those diseases can be cured by realigning the spine again. - JLI

8)   I agree with JLI.

There is a lot of woo in Chiropractic.

In short, chiropractic may be beneficial for mild lower back pain of soft tissue origin. However, any claims made beyond this are unsupported.

Couple of things to remember: A healthy back does not require routine adjustments to stay healthy. So repeated visits to a chiropractor are generally not needed.

Any chiropractor who claims the root cause of disease is a misaligned spine should be avoided.

Their theory of "subluxations" makes no scientific or anatomic sense...most chiropractors have "evolved" from these woo roots. However, you still get some who refuse to leave these ancient magical ways of thinking behind.

Cue 3...2...1.. Mr E and "hio chiropractic".

@ Calyx: Thanks for that emotional rant; can you provide evidence to support you assertions? - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

9)   Remember, they are in hock to Simon Singh and their own lawyers for attempting to take Singh to court when he stated that they peddle treatments for which there is not a jot of evidence of their efficacy - they lost the case.

Some 25% were investigated by regulatory bodies about their false advertizing and false claims and eventually they all had to be instructed by their members' bodies to remove web-sites, remove advertizments and start again without making claims.

So no, they are not legit, they DO peddle treatments for which there is not a jot of evidence and they have been known to kill and maim. She should be seeing a proper physiotherapist not a quack. - Nitram

10)   Okay, so let's get some things straight here: 1) Chiropractors go to medical school and take the EXACT same curriculum as medical students for at LEAST the first four years of their training. They spend at least an additional two years training in their specialty, which is the spine, the nerves and the musculature of the human body. 2) Chiropractors treat illness and disease through the use of what are called "spinal adjustments", which is pretty much EXACTLY the same modality that Osteopaths (who are medical doctors) use. 3) It is patently illegal to call yourself a Chiropractor if you are not licensed and insured, peer reviewed and supervised in some way by your state's Medical Board of Examiners. 4) and this is VERY important: The very genesis of the AMA in the US was not as a medical board of examiners, not as peer review, not as a licensing body, but as a TRADE ORGANIZATION whose manifesto AND intention it was was to put ALL chiropractors, all midwives, all homeopaths and ANY medical practitioner who did not follow the AMA's decrees out of business (ie who were competition in ANY way, regardless of statistically better outcomes, regardless of less invasive, less fatal treatments, regardless of education and licensing required to become a chiropractor, regardless of the truth.) They've been at this since the 1800's. There was a suit filed against the AMA for restraint of trade, and for slander and libel. The AMA was found AGAINST in the 1980's. (This means they, with all their money and all their lawyers, LOST.) It was found they had been literally trying to destroy the chiropractic profession for over 100 years. This should give some of you clowns a better sense of what is REALLY true and what is just your opinion. Let's look at over 900,000 deaths caused last year alone by treatment from allopathic medicine, that's a FACT, not my "opinion". That's very close to a million people dying (or rather, being killed.) for those of you who cannot seem to do math. You want to talk about "shady" treatment? Let's talk about the fact that 90% of the hysterectomies performed in the US are UNNECESSARY procedures, shall we? Going to the chiropractor is one of the VERY best things I do for myself all month, period. You've heard of an alignment for your car? I REALLY struggle with the fact that most of you take better care of your cars than you do your bodies. It is exceedingly easy to call someone (with far more medical training than you, by the way) a quack or a pseudo-practitioner. It is far harder, apparently, for some of you to a) back up your theories, and b) to prove them. Spouting destructive CANT is super easy. Try opening your mind up instead. There are many, many, many hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people who have been greatly helped by this profession. - calyx156

11)   Nope, they're back-cracking quacks. - dave

12)   When you take a long hard look at chiropractic, you have to start at the beginning, A guy named DD Palmer(a 5th grade graduate) "cured" a man of deafness by cracking his neck. Now we all know that isn't possible. Has anyone ever heard of a chiro doing that amazing feat since? Chiropractic developed into a cult, pretty much where it it stuck today, some 115 years later. Chiros used to tell people that their vertebrae were moved "out of place" and were pressing on a nerve causing all sort of horrible things. That was disproved by the medical community . SO chiros invented a silly notion called "vertebral subluxations" (that cause "nerve interference")a ridiculous notion that even chiros can't even agree on. But boy they treat them.
Chiropractic at the present time is in a world of hurt. Chiro school has the lowest standard of any in health care. The joke is the qualification are,you have a pulse, and can sign a student loan app. So chiropractic schools are churning out ill qualified "doctors" left and right. So the competition is stiff for patients. When they do get someone like your mom, they use scare tactics and brainwashing to keep them coming back over and over. They use what is called scriped conversation.("And how are we feeling today, fine?,great see you next week,we have to keep up on your "adjustments" to make sure to "stay" healthy) Ask your mom if that sounds familiar. The vast majority of people have never been, nor never will go to a chiropractor,How in the world do we exist? - massage therapist

13)   You're right to have doubts, they are a bunch of quacks. They might be able to relieve a little lower back pain but no better than a massage or a couple of analgesics.

There is no scientific research to back up their claims. That is why they recently got their (the British Chiropractic Association) asses kicked in court in the UK. They tried to sue a science writer Simon Singh for libel for because he said they happily promote bogus treatments without a jot of evidence. He was right and won the case. If you know anything about the insane libel laws in the UK you will understand this is a brilliant victory for science.

http://whatstheharm.net/chiropractic.html - Michelle

14)   Absolutely legitimate. People who make derogatory remarks must be living on some other planet.
In Canada students study for 7 years to become Doctors of Chiropractic and are regulated under the Health Professons Act. The title "Chiropractor" is protected by law.
There was an anti-trust suit against the AMA in the 1980's because conventional medicine was spreading nasty propaganda to deny patients a superior form of medical treatment backed by tons of studies, for muskuloskeletal problems -- words of the judge, not mine. All ConMed can do is hand out cervical collars and pain pills. Now that's a scam.
There are no guarantees for back surgery, plenty of patients end up worse off, and guess what? There's no evidence that back surgery works.
For the U.K. skeppie kooks, Simon Singh who libelled Chiropractic will think twice before opening his yap because it's cost him a fortune in legal fees. Serves him right.
The only people who belittle Chiropractic these days are people who are wilfully ignorant and obtuse. - thenoseknows

4)   When this happened to me, I called my phone carrier and they blocked that phone number ocming into my phone line. I don't know about any reverse look up phone book. - C-girl

5)   No.

Call the network you're on and tell them of your situation. Then give them the number. You can either change your number, or have them blocked off from calling you. They might also look into the matter and give you another option. - Omega Hurricane

7)   if its just silly pranks, then have your phone company block the number.

If they are threats or anything like that, contact the police and let them deal with it, do not ignore a threat, it might not be all talk. Also if the calls continue (with a new number) after the first one is blocked, that's more then a joke and is harassment. - J

8)   You can look up the number with a reverse lookup, however some people's cell phone numbers are not listed. Many people's are because they have gotten rid of their landline's and they are now using cell phones exclusively. To look up a number, visit: http://www.whitepages.com/reverse_phone you can also try Google searching the phone number. List the phone number as (xxx) xxx-xxxx many times it will produce a result if the person's number is listed anywhere. If you still do not have any luck, many cell phone companies will let you block a phone number, either by visiting the cell phone provider's web site, or by calling the cell phone provider. They will be able to block the phone number so that the person cannot call you anymore. - batraylover

Vicodin, ibuprofen, alcohol, marijuana?

Question 1
Vicodin, ibuprofen, alcohol, marijuana?...  I have all these and i want to feel diffrent,i get high all the time but i want something stronger that wont kill me..heres the question i have all of these and i was looking for a fun recipe using these and maybe other things to make me feel amazing....now i am an everyday smoker so if it feels like getting high and thats it then im not interested
by the way this is not for recreational purposes its just a question since a friend tends tu run experiments i want to be informed.....

Answers
1)   Ok the first thing is the amount is a huge factor but for combinations marajuana and alcohol go really good. Vicodin and marajuana and ibuprofen go good, the only combination you don't want to include is vicodin/ibuprofen and alcohol which really increases your chance of death. Again it really depends on how much or each you take as you can smoke as much weed as you want but don't take more than 3 pills and try never to mix pills with alcohol. - joe142507

2)   Why in the hell would you put ibu in that mix? unless it's vicoprofen your talking ab don't take the ibu, it will do NOTHING. and hydro and alc mix? Yeah people do it, but it can easily cause respitory depression. just be careful, your going down a rough path, I get to spend ev sat, and sit 6 hrs in a drug and alc class...don't be another person that is sitting waiting on some judge to determine your fate. I'm not telling you to do anything. I just want you to be safe and know the consequences. hydro is a schedule III drug, And weed is schedule I. that is jail for a long time if you don't get lucky and get pti. just think ab it. is it worth it? - Andrew

3)   jog for 30 mins. you will feel high - Bryan

4)   well weed is a must, id add some Vicodin and/or morphine. id add some speed or at least some trucker energy pills. if its available try getting some acid/LSD.maybe some shrooms. this will get you the most hallucinogenic, euphoric, energetic trippy high that i can think of. keep on toking it up - Scotty Keene

5)   Go drug free and get high on life. - RS

6)   vicodin has two chemicals in it one which is a very strong pain reliever (hydrocodone 5mg) and the other is the the active ingredient in over the counter pain meds (acetaminophen 500mg) the hydrocodone is very strong and is safe other than that it can be habit forming while the acetaminophen is bad for your liver at high doses. so two vidoden contains a regular dose of acetaminophen (1000 mg) and three would be safe to take every once in a while. Vicoden carries a heavy body high from 2-3 tablets.
Ibuprofen will not get you high don't take it, it would also be damaging to your liver to take it with vocoden
i disapprove of alcohol and do not use it.
So i would recommend smoking a joint or couple bowls of the cannabis (marijuana) and taking 2-3 vocoden (3 if you plan on not moving around too much for 5 or 6 hours) the vicoden will intensify the marijuana's effect and add a really good body high.
Note: if you lie down or go to sleep in the first 4 hours of the vicoden it will be the most comfortable rest you have ever had
Also if you want more more of a high you could add some camomile tea for a calm which would complement both the vicoden and cannabis. - cool jeans

1)   Laser eye surgery is the only way. Carrots too probably! :)

Your sight probably diminished a little because too much time looking at the glare of the computer screen or television. - ☮ѕтєƒ ☺

2)   Dont stare at computer screen for too long; they say no more than an hour at a time. Dont look close when you read things. wear glasses outside, and dont stare at the sun - db

3)   I have the vision app on my iPhone and it gives me some tips. If you have freetime, constantly blink your eyes at a steady pace for about a minute. It's a good exercise to refresh your eyes. Also looking at sterograms help relax your mind and your eyes. I'm not sure on how to increase your vision, but I would say to limit time on electonics and tv. Hope everything goes well! - Ronay Stevens

4)   Try to do less computer or watch less tv.
Also, if you read, take a break once in a while and look at something more far away.
Plus, if you smoke, try not to do as much.
If its sunny outside, wear sunglasses.
Use supplements like Billberry, Eyebright, and Lutein.
Try to do eye exercises too.

Good Luck! - ♥Sweet Cookie♥

5)   All these posters are just repeating myths and old wives' tales. You can only improve vision with glasses, contacts, or surgery. Neither T.V nor computer screens worsen your eyesight; no matter how long you stare at them. - Nate

6)   Nate is correct; electronic screens might cause some temporary dryness or irritation, but they can't affect the quality of vision itself. If glasses and contacts are out, you need to look into laser surgery. You're likely going to be advised to wait a few years to ensure your correction profile is well-established prior to chargin' the lasers. - Psychobenzaprine

How do they treat bipolar patients? Is there anyway to self medicate (not have to go to the doctors)..?...  jw...
no i have not been diagnosed.

But, 3 years ago i thought i had this, and took many tests that said its likely. I have anxiety, I had a panic attack over the summer, Some days I feel numb to any emotion, Some days (like earlier today) Im happy for no reason, I was even laughing at things that werent that funny. Some days, like now, I feel super depressed, like I haven't been living the way I should, and now it's too late for me to change it.

Answers
1)   Well to know for sure if you were bipolar in the first place a doctor would need to eval you so if they did find you to be bipolar they could discuss alternative treatments with you during the visit in which would benefit you and your issues at hand...not everyone that is bipolar are alike or benefit from the same treatments either. - Misty

2)   St. John's Wort, an herb, can help with depression. So can regular exercise. Psychotherapy can help, though that's a doctor. Meditation and keeping to a regular schedule can help. Have you been diagnosed, or are you just guessing?

EDIT If you haven't been diagnosed, you have no idea if you're bipolar. Bipolar phases don't shift from manic to depressive in the course of a day. More likely, you're just moody. For most with bipolar, manic moods last days or weeks, as do depressive phases. It isn't likely you were manic this morning, and depressed tonight. Don't try to treat conditions you haven't been diagnosed with. Are you an adolescent? Drastic mood swings from one day to the next are common in adolescence. Manic individuals do things like stay awake for days on end and paint their whole house random colors, and have sex with strangers. Are you doing that? Then you're not bipolar. - Laura B

3)   Bipolar patients are treated with various medications, depending on the phase in which they are at the time. For classic euphoric mania ( the 'up' state) the usual treatment is with lithium carbonate. This has to be monitored carefully so as to achieve a blood level of 0.8-1.2 mEq/liter. Occasionally, the use of haloperidol may be required as well.

Because of the potential toxicity of the anti-psychotic drugs required to treat bipolar disorder, it is extremely dangerous to attempt self-medication. - smitmeisters_dad

4)   Everyone I know has got pills or A theropist. If u want to treat it yourself when u feel that ur getting in an angry mode seclude yourself from people for a little bit. - r-o-o-n-i-e6812!

5)   Bipolar disorder is a serious mental disorder that CANNOT be treated by the sufferer. There is NO "alternative medicine" that helps even a little. The ONLY people who are qualified to treat bipolar disorder are MD psychiatrists and specially-trained psychiatric nurses. - wmayers99

On the bottle it says substitute for adderall.
The pills are blue and they say b 972, and then 10 on the other side.
I was jw if this is actually adderall or something else.

1)   It's probably generic. Call the pharmacy and ask of they areheneric equivalents - Leo D

2)   It is the same exact drug as Adderall, just a different brand name. Same ingredients, just cheaper for the pharmacy. And for you. - Chrissy

3)   IR stands for instant release. It isnt released over a long period of time like XR is. Def not a placebo if your paranoid about that. - Diane H

4)   Its the same chemical makeup just a different brand name (bascially it sounds like you may have gotten a generic version which is usually cheaper, more insurances pay for them better and really generally the wiser way to go money wise) Adderall is just the brand name such as tennis shoes come in Nike, New Balance etc but they are all still tenis shoes...the medications name is known as Amphetamine Sulfate regardless of the brand. The colors are different for each dose such as 10mg 20mg and so forth so if they were mixed up or in an emergency situation they can be known what mg the person takes when the bottle isn't present. The larger the mg the size of the pill usually increases in size some too - Misty

5)   You have the generic version Adderall 10mg produced by Barr Laboratories. It's generally considered to be the best on the market in terms of price, taste, effectiveness and frangibility (tablets are easily snapped in half or quarters). - Psychobenzaprine

I am scared..is there anyway to get the steroids from a steroid spinal shot out of my system.?...  I have been in bad pain for 8 months suffering from 4 pinched nerves in back, severe sciatica (now pain is gone there though) , several bone spurs in spine, severe disc degeneration and narrowing of disk (the result of 25 car accidents and resulting injuries and several bouts of sciatica the last one excruciating being completely bedridden for 3 weeks). The pain was more intense than at any time other than when a car rum me over when walking and may have damaged a nerve as it was so excruciating I screamed with pain at times. Much worst than my other herniations (except for one of them) and my chiropractor told me that one was the worst one he ever worked on.

Had several other injuries in back, knee and groin during last 8 months and suffering horrible nerve pain and parasthesia that is causing a lot of problems walking etc and exacerbating my depression very much. The hmo turned down mri on groin and chiropractor so have not been to chiropractor but 2 times in last 6 months so tried the steroid shot in desperation--took me months and months to find a doctor and get the appointment (family doctor took 3 months to get appt and the specialist also 3 months.

the shot did not help at all as far as my pain and nerve damage/pain/numbness.

However, it has caused my blood sugar to go completely out of control for 7 days it was too high for the meter to read (over 600) on all three of my meters.

It has never been under 300 since this shot 11 day ago,,.was running 140-175 in am but now never under 300-425 in the am after not eating all night. Every time I eat it is at least 475. Right now it is 525.

I am scared and not on drugs or wanting to be on drugs but I am also scared something will happen to me with it this high.

Is there any way to lower it (I have found cayenne drops it 75-150 points but it kind of burns my stomach as I have reflux

Is there any way to drive this steroid out of my body.,.they said it might raise my blood sugar temporarily but had no idea it would be this much and last so long also that doctor (who answered almost no questions cutting me off on my consultation which was scheduled for hew purpose of asking questions after 3 or 4 words gave a sentence or less answers and left while I still had questions so not calling that guy..I could not stand him so not wanting to ask him..all he said was it is just temporary.

I do have appt with family doctor in 4 days but since I don't want to take drugs, is there anything I can do to get it back to normal/..does it take longer for these steroids to exit body if on the spinal canal. When might expect my blood sugar to go down or is this going to be permanent and the 2 doctors lied.

I have also been under a LOT of stress and messed up my diet last month, but have not had readings like this ever though 18 months ago I had a few readings over 600 but went away when I changed my diet so I think this is related to the steroid shot. I have never had it over 600 7 days in a row like this week and at least 550 every day last 11 days since the shot.

They are talking about another one but now I am scared as I do not want to get stroke or coma if it does this to me again.

also my pinched nerves were mainly at L4and L5 and he said in his report he gave shot at L4-5 but he did NOT as nurse said it was where bandage was and that was at my waist so he injected the steroid not where the injury was and where he lied and said he did but more in the lower thoracic areas.

He claimed it spread up and down spine but I do not trust him since he lied on the outpatient procedure notes and did not do it where the problem was.

Do you know if he would have done it at l4 or l5 would this have worked better?

anyway does anyone know how to help chelate this out of my body faster and if it will be permanently affecting my blood sugar.

please advise

Answers
1)   Steroids temporarily will increase your blood glucose levels, and there is no way to make the shot magically disappear. The increased blood glucose levels are caused by insulin resistance temporarily triggered by the steroids, and this WILL go away.

You need to see a doctor IMMEDIATELY (as in, TODAY, right now ideally) to get insulin, however. There is no way to bring BG levels that high down at home, and levels that high concern me that you could be in diabetic ketoacidosis and well on your way to a diabetic coma. You should have gone in to get insulin when you first started getting these high readings!

You'll just temporarily need to take insulin, and then when the steroids wear off, you wont need insulin anymore.

Again, see your doctor or go to an ER today. Have someone else drive you, or if nobody can, call 911. Your blood glucose levels are imminently life threatening and you could die -today- if you don't get them treated. - Z

2)   I would agree with Z on this. As for pain, you might want to try the HI-DOW Massager V – the latest in Transcutaneous Electronic Nerve Stimulation or Tens Technology.

"Sue Lamb, the Australian distributor of the Therapeutic Goods Administration-approved device, believes the results speak for themselves.

“We've had so many people come back with testimonies; they've been able to get off morphine patches, they haven’t had to take medication, they’re off anti-inflammatory tablets,” Ms Lamb said.

You may have heard of the technology; a nerve stimulator sending electric pulses to areas in pain to increase circulation and block pain signals. Many people may have been subjected to the technology when giving birth.

The device is set apart from other Tens devices on the market as it continually tricks the brain.

Previously, the brain signal was eventually able to creep through the electronic pulses allowing the pain to slowly come back.

The Hi-Dow has a new 6th mode, which due to technology and the changes of Tens machines, can continually block the pain signals."

Question 4
What happends if I keep prolonging a doctors appointment about my low blood pressure?...  What exactly is low blood pressure? What happens to my health, and can it be the reason why I feel sick most time?

Answers
1)   Low blood pressure means that your heart is not pumping blood efficiently or your blood volume is not sufficient to support normal vasuclar pressure. It is very serious until you get it figured out and treated. You should not drive because you can black out behind the wheel. Google it and find out more than you really want to know but don't put off the appointment again. - uuchurchlady

2)   Weak walls of blood vessels and arteries can lead to very serious complications.Prolonged avoidance increases the risk of these conditions. I'm not a doctor but ask yourself if it's worth the risk. - Altru-man

3)   When you say you have low blood pressure, how low are we talking exactly? And how many readings has this assertion been based on? Single readings are never diagnostic.

Low blood pressure is a relative thing; providing you are not symptomatic and experiencing symptoms such as dizziness and fainting (that would indicate BP is so low it's unable to push blood around the body sufficiently) the number is not that important. It is seldom considered pathology and is rarely ever medicated. It is generally considered a normal healthy variant.

Pathologically low blood pressure is rare and can be caused by different problems such as endocrine problems, certain cardiac issues and diabetes. If you have any health concerns, then you need to see your Doctor.

There is no rational reason to delay medical advice. Doing so may put your health at risk. - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

Question 5
Vitamin B supplements?...  Is vitamin B supplements good for health. Since im a vegetarian i'm taking vitamin B regularly. Would it cause any adverse effects on my body?
ya , its B Complex with Vitamin C and Zinc. Just wanna know if its got a bad effect in future. like any adverse effects?

Answers
1)   Try a B-Complex for maximum health benefits.

B vitamins help with the nervous systems (keeps you calm) keeps your skin clear and helps your immune system. - Love2

2)   The only real concern of b deficiency in vegetarians (usually only strict vegetarians / vegans) is that of b12 deficiency. But, there needs to be some perspective as to just how much b12 supplementation a vegan needs.

Even if you consume NO animal products whatsoever, and you happen to be one of the few vegans out there who manages to consume no b12 fortified food, your b12 needs are still pretty minimal- the maximum a female needs is in the way of 2.6 micrograms a day.

b12 is sold in tablets of up to 5 milligrams, or 5,000 micrograms. Your body stores b12, so you don't need to consume it consistently: you just need to work out to about 2.6 micrograms, perhaps a bit more to be safe, per day. 1 5mg b12 tablet provides you the b12 necessary to have normal, non-deficient levels of b12 for 1923 days, or just over 5 years.

As a to-be-extra-cautious measure, I'd recommend that a strict vegetarian take a 5mg b12 tablet (or the equivalent in smaller-dose tablet form if you can't find 5mg) (and a mixed b tablet, if they wish) 2-4 times per year. No, that's not what the bottles say: they'll tell you to swallow down one a day.

But what the bottles don't tell you is that the only thing taking a daily b supplement is going to do for you is make you produce really expensive urine, because that's where the vitamins are going once your body has stored the maximum it's going to store. So save your money, pop a supplement a couple times a year, and call it a day. - Z

3)   No adverse reactions that I can think of but you do need to know that the liquid B vitamins (sublingual) are much more effective than the pills or capsules. There was a study done on B12 that showed we are most likely taking way less than what could be helpful and of course, even less of a chance of taking too much. - cyndiann

Who knows a good home remedy for this?

Question 1
Who knows a good home remedy for this?...  Yesterday, I got stuck changing a flat tire in the rain.... in mocassins. The water went through the shoes, through the socks, and my feet were soaked. I dried them as soon as I got home, but my throat feels like it's going to start hurting. What would be good to eat or drink to avoid getting really sick? Thanks a lot.

3)   green tea, or earl grey tea with lemon. :) and food, well, I'm not sure - Daniella

4)   some hot tea would be good or some warm soup - Marissa Zupancic

5)   In Such a case I would recommend green tea sweetened with local honey. The tea cleans the toxins out of your body and works as a emunity booster, the honey (locally produced) helps fight local sicknesses and allergies as well as soothes and calms imflametory in the throat. I use this and it always works, quite quickly too.

does weed stop affecting you after a certain point?

Question 1
does weed stop affecting you after a certain point?...  can you only get so stoned to the point where smoking more is just wasteful and inaffective (meaning you cant get any more high)? or is it like alcohol where can you keep getting more and more stoned the more you smoke?
pot overdose? lol, you're funny.

Answers
1)   its like alcohol - Cossie

2)   Nope. U can get stoned whenever - Morgan

3)   If you smoke for a long enough period consistently, you will get to the point where you don't really get "high". I used to smoke pot all day everyday for about a year. I was at the point where It'd just feel normal no matter how much I smoked. In the beginning, I was never able to drive high, but after a certain point, I'd be able to function just as I would without any pot. - Steven Ham

4)   It doesn't stop. You'll always be baked every time. Dude, don't do it. It may be healthier than tobacco or alcohol, but there is no healthy drug. Weed will soon ruin relationships with the people you know and love. That is the effect it will have at a certain point. - NwG_Str8Edge*tayswiftyboi*

5)   no. you just OD. die. the end. that's why drugs are bad. like if you drink too much you could die from like liver poisoning. Have you heard of the band Sublime? they're from my town (Long Beach! woot!) but the lead singer ODed on pot in the 90's and so he's dead. so be careful what you do... :)
sorry if I sound kind of crazyish. I'm just warning you that if you overdose on anydrugs you can hurt yourself. and the people around you. so just play it safe and dont hurt your loved ones - koolnoodles

6)   You are correct. You get an effect to a point and then no further.
At that point you are just burning your money.
With alcohol you can keep increasing your dose, right up to and including death.
With cannabis, you can not overdose.
Now then, as for your use of the word "stoned".
Stoned is to cannabis as drunk is to drinking.
When done correctly, in either venue, no one should ever be able to know you have consumed it.
Oh yeah, me, I have been using it for 40 years.
Here is a link I think you will enjoy.
Think about it.
Cannabis prevents Alzheimer's.
And thats the rub. It is a preventative, but it is not a restorative. - Doug

7)   First of all no you can NOT die from weed. Nobody has EVER died or ODed on weed!!! What an idiot! Second of all yes after a certain point you will no longer get any higher (I'm assuming you mean in 1 setting?) If you smoke 4-5 joints in 1 setting you will stop getting "higher" and just get a headache and be to the point where you cant keep your eyes open any longer! If you wanna get as high as you can then try not get to the "over doing it" point otherwise yes it's wasteful to both the weed and yourself! - Love my babies!

Question 2
I'm thinking about smoking weed?...  I'm fourteen years old, and recently I have found the want to try marijuana. I've been offered weed before by a friend but I turned it down. Now I'm thinking about it again. Any advice? (please don't tell me it's unhealthy or illegal, because I already know these things)

Answers
1)   Okay, if you know it's unhealthy and illegal, why do you wanna do it? Wow, I'm losing faith in the generations below me. If you smoke weed, you will lose many friendships and your family will hate you. - Tia

2)   Not really any advice. Except you might not feel anything the very first time. Have fun and don't be stupid with it :) - Love my babies!

3)   Ok, I won't tell you what you already know. I'll just say don't be a fking idiot. Why would you even think about smoking pot at 14, at least wait until your 21 to do something stupid. Don't be an idiot, be smart. - Duncan Dufva

4)   As a habitual marijuana smoker I must tell you that Marijuana is a wonderful and beautiful thing, but personally I believe you as a fourteen year old should not start smoking quite yet.

Although it produces quite pleasant side effects, does not impair you to the point alcohol does and does not directly cause cancer(as of recent studies) you are only fourteen years old and although you may not believe it, chemically your body and brain are not developed fully and because of that I believe any chemical substance entered into your body can be detrimental(they even say children should not intake caffeine because it stunts your growth).

My personal opinion would be to tell you to wait a few years, wait until you are seventeen or eighteen years old and then try smoking pot, although great things can come out of marijuana, negative things can also come out of this and I would not suggest risking becoming a burnout until your body and mind are fully developed and in tune. - Mark

5)   Don't listen to any anti-drug answers. Saying it rips apart families and kills brain cells is 100% untrue. However, don't listen to extremely pro-drug answers. They treat marijuana like god.

I smoke weed once or twice a week. When I started I smoked it every day (Not because it was addicting, but because it was fun and it being a new thing I was enjoying it) until I slowed down after 2/3 months. Now I smoke it just a couple times a week at most to have a good time with friends. I recommend trying it. It's always good to try new things and have fun. That's what life is all about. However, don't start skipping class and smoking it all day. That's what I did (I'm in 15, so this is coming from a fellow high school student) and it's a stupid idea. Now I smoke it if I'm with certain friends after school or on the weekends. You might not like it, and never do it again. That's totally cool, tons of people are like that. But if you do like it - just don't let it take control. It's a real fun thing, but there is such thing as too much of a good thing. - Kastour

6)   Marijuana can be fun, and enjoyable, and great if done in the right setting and reasons. As a continual smoker off and on for the past 20 years I have yet to have really any real side effects. I do not cough, My lungs are fine, I think the worst part of it was my guy from all the munchies lol.But at your age I would wait. right now your body and brain are still developing, and if you start weed too soon, it could adversely effect your development. All those stoners people that sound like they are ALWAYS high, started at 14... Just saying. Wait till your 18ish, 17 even, before you start using marijuana. 14 is a bit early. just a little friendly advice from a veteran of smoking:) - fstmny4

7)   I have been using cannabis for over 40 years.
It should be in everyones medicine box right next to their other supplements.
I have a daughter who is 12. We have had the talk.
Heres the deal. You can't do anything until you are 25.
No drugs, alcohol, cannabis, Nothing.
The reason is that at 25 is when your brain stops growing.
This is why you usually can't rent a car until you are 25.
Aside from that, this is a very healthy thing to do.
But if you do it, the key is that no one should ever be able to look at you and know that you have done it.
Stoned is to cannabis as drunk is to drinking. - Doug

4)   You can NOT get in trouble for being high, only for being in possession of the weed or a device to smoke it with (pipe, rolling paper etc). Melatonin is a chemical we all release from our brain when it thinks its time for bed. People working odd shifts can have melatonin issues, which cause you not to sleep as regularly. need help quiting drugs ?...  need help trying to quit im addicted to benzos and painpills been to rehab and it just aint workin anyone got any advice?

Answers
1)   Yeah, go back to rehab.
Lots of people get frequent flyer miles before they finally "get it". - Tink

2)   Smoke weed. - Gumby

3)   I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I've been addicted to intravenous opiates for about a year and alcohol for about 4 years. I've been to rehab, detox, and addiction counseling, none of them worked. I used to shoot up about 3 times a day and drink about 15 drinks a day, I'm now down to drinking about 8 drinks every 2 days and shooting up every 3 days and I'm continuing to decrease. What I found to be very helpful was simply gradually cutting down on frequency and dosage and using OTC codeine to help with withdrawals. I've also attended numerous hyponosis sessions, they help quite a bit. It's a slow process but I believe it's the best way. And one very, very important thing is you truly need the desire to stop. If you're just trying to quit because people are telling you to, you'll never get there. Once you get to the point that you really want to get off of it, it's downhill from there. - David

4)   I think you should go to a drug counselor or family member for help and making sure you stay on the right path. Take their advice. Then I think you should google meditation techniques. It can be wicked frustrating at first but once you got it, it feels great. You can even kinda get a high from it. What it will do provide a deeper relaxation, make your reality better and give yoiu some positive vibes. Then I think you should find an activity that would be better to than drugs. - Hippie Punk

5)   pray pray pray, especially when you are feeling like dirt,i smoked crack for 7 years, drank to blackout for 20,i hit the bottom of bottom, and still craved a high,i prayed for about a year for god to make a change,i knew if i kept getting high that i would graduate from jail to prison, that really didnt scare me,but did make me more aware of what i was doing was illegal, and i was a two time felon,so the next would surely be prison, for a year or two,you have to want to stop ,or at least be open for change,i promise if you dont give up on god,he wont let you down, sooner or later, you will get a high at things you never would dream,i still want to get high, right now as a matter of fact, but i think through the high,or drink, and know where it will get me,pick up the bible, and get yourself the blue book,(bill wilson) a.a.,trade the drink for pills in the book, there the same,if you do go back to rehab,(i been to 6) find one that is NOT state run, they can only tell you what the government want them to tell you, find a private run rehab, they will break you down and build you up the right way, sounds like you have taken the first step in addmittance, dont for WE addmitted ,that means you are not alone,SORRY FOR THE SPELLING,good luuck my friend, and god bless your journey - tony

Question 5
How long until my friend can pass a pee test? BA 10 points Tonight?...  Ok, so my friend smokes a little pot at night about an hour and a half before he goes to sleep. Not much though, maybe 3-4 small hits off a joint. The stuff he smokes is not shwag or crappy stuff its got some crystals and stuff. Hes 5' 10" about 175lbs. Very active, works and works out everyday. He recently did his usual little bit of smoke one night around 11pm, the next day at around 4pm, he took a home pee test he bought from CVS after drinking a lot of water and the test read negative...NOT INCONCLUSIVE, it was a fairly clear negative, so the water did not dilute the test enough to make it inconclusive. Anyway, before he goes to take the real test, which will be the same exact take home pee test as he passed at home after smoking less than 24 hours earlier, he wants to know if that makes sense or if it was a fluke? Can he smoke his little bit tonight like normal and drink a bunch of water again and pass the pee test tomorrow? Best answer will get 10 points tonight.

Answers
1)   why would he risk it? - THE KARMIC KOALA

2)   Don't risk it but my mom surprised me once with a pee test and i told her that i didn't have to go because I had smoked the night before and she gave me and hour so I drank a TON of water and passed it :D i was so relieved. - Theleastinterestingman

3)   NO. It can last in your system up to at least 1 to 2 days. The people who give the test have a lot better equipment so he should not smoke anything tonight because most likely it'll show up on the test. Just tell him to stay strong and tough it out until after the test! - Sean

4)   No, it usually takes at LEAST 2-3 weeks, or so I've been told. Water does not dillute it especially if he smoked the day before, it was probably a crappy test. You need to give it al least 2 weeks, 30 days being the best option though depending on which kind of test is used. - tayy.

5)   Don't do it! If he wants to keep his job and be able to continue to buy pot. He should skip it tonight. drink alot of green tea and pickle juice just to make sure. Plus, he doesnt even smoke really. - Jacob Metcalf

Go to WinItems.com - Theodora Boganski

6)   call your pharmacist or Doctor drink water eat chips try to get it down then ask your Doctor about a smaller pill - dan Dan

7)   I have this problem, too. Some people have an esophagus that is more narrow than usual, or that contracts more tightly than others when trying to swallow food. When trying to swallow something like a large pill, it causes that "stuck" feeling. Sometimes the object actually is stuck, sometimes it just feels like it.

The only solution I have found is to request a smaller pill or use a liquid if possible. If not, try eating something right after you swallow the pill. It will probably take something substantial - more than just one or two crackers, for instance - but it always works for me. Usually, I have to eat something like a whole slice of bread, at least.

I wouldn't worry about overdose on the antibiotics, but do try to eat something to make sure it isn't stuck and dissolving in your esophagus - that can cause some serious irritation. - Shawn

8)   Try eating something solid---and wash that down with plenty of liquid---that's what I do when that happens to me and it usually works...don't eat something that's soft--make sure it's something solid and crunchy...good luck - What Will The Spill Kill?

9)   Save yourself the embarrassment of seeking professional help, you are a hypochondriac. - Nicole D

Since I started thinking (and living) in another way, I am never sick anymore.

I know that changing my life-patterns could make me sick, but this could take a while since my mind is so strong.

So I need some medicine that is strong enough to make me sick easily,
it shouldn't be that difficult, but I really have no touch with the medicine world,

so I am asking for professional and peer reviewed advice.
Please no real scientists, only mainstream medicine or other fake scienctists.

6)   Masturbating often has its ups and downs.

In general, the medical community considers masturbation to be a natural and harmless expression of sexuality for both men and women. It does not cause any physical injury or harm to the body, and can be performed in moderation throughout a person's lifetime as a part of normal sexual behavior. Some cultures and religions oppose the use of masturbation or even label it as sinful. This can lead to guilt or shame about the behavior.

Some experts suggest that masturbation can actually improve sexual health and relationships. By exploring your own body through masturbation, you can determine what is erotically pleasing to you and can share this with your partner. Some partners use mutual masturbation to discover techniques for a more satisfying sexual relationship and to add to their mutual intimacy.

Of course, you're losing a decent amount of protein, which is extremely important for the overall well-being of a young man. - Ronnie Bell
