Question 3
I am scared..is there anyway to get the steroids from a steroid spinal shot out of my system.?...  I have been in bad pain for 8 months suffering from 4 pinched nerves in back, severe sciatica (now pain is gone there though) , several bone spurs in spine, severe disc degeneration and narrowing of disk (the result of 25 car accidents and resulting injuries and several bouts of sciatica the last one excruciating being completely bedridden for 3 weeks). The pain was more intense than at any time other than when a car rum me over when walking and may have damaged a nerve as it was so excruciating I screamed with pain at times. Much worst than my other herniations (except for one of them) and my chiropractor told me that one was the worst one he ever worked on.

Had several other injuries in back, knee and groin during last 8 months and suffering horrible nerve pain and parasthesia that is causing a lot of problems walking etc and exacerbating my depression very much. The hmo turned down mri on groin and chiropractor so have not been to chiropractor but 2 times in last 6 months so tried the steroid shot in desperation--took me months and months to find a doctor and get the appointment (family doctor took 3 months to get appt and the specialist also 3 months.

the shot did not help at all as far as my pain and nerve damage/pain/numbness.

However, it has caused my blood sugar to go completely out of control for 7 days it was too high for the meter to read (over 600) on all three of my meters.

It has never been under 300 since this shot 11 day ago,,.was running 140-175 in am but now never under 300-425 in the am after not eating all night. Every time I eat it is at least 475. Right now it is 525.

I am scared and not on drugs or wanting to be on drugs but I am also scared something will happen to me with it this high.

Is there any way to lower it (I have found cayenne drops it 75-150 points but it kind of burns my stomach as I have reflux

Is there any way to drive this steroid out of my body.,.they said it might raise my blood sugar temporarily but had no idea it would be this much and last so long also that doctor (who answered almost no questions cutting me off on my consultation which was scheduled for hew purpose of asking questions after 3 or 4 words gave a sentence or less answers and left while I still had questions so not calling that guy..I could not stand him so not wanting to ask him..all he said was it is just temporary.

I do have appt with family doctor in 4 days but since I don't want to take drugs, is there anything I can do to get it back to normal/..does it take longer for these steroids to exit body if on the spinal canal. When might expect my blood sugar to go down or is this going to be permanent and the 2 doctors lied.

I have also been under a LOT of stress and messed up my diet last month, but have not had readings like this ever though 18 months ago I had a few readings over 600 but went away when I changed my diet so I think this is related to the steroid shot. I have never had it over 600 7 days in a row like this week and at least 550 every day last 11 days since the shot.

They are talking about another one but now I am scared as I do not want to get stroke or coma if it does this to me again.

also my pinched nerves were mainly at L4and L5 and he said in his report he gave shot at L4-5 but he did NOT as nurse said it was where bandage was and that was at my waist so he injected the steroid not where the injury was and where he lied and said he did but more in the lower thoracic areas.

He claimed it spread up and down spine but I do not trust him since he lied on the outpatient procedure notes and did not do it where the problem was.

Do you know if he would have done it at l4 or l5 would this have worked better?

anyway does anyone know how to help chelate this out of my body faster and if it will be permanently affecting my blood sugar.

please advise

Answers
1)   Steroids temporarily will increase your blood glucose levels, and there is no way to make the shot magically disappear. The increased blood glucose levels are caused by insulin resistance temporarily triggered by the steroids, and this WILL go away.

You need to see a doctor IMMEDIATELY (as in, TODAY, right now ideally) to get insulin, however. There is no way to bring BG levels that high down at home, and levels that high concern me that you could be in diabetic ketoacidosis and well on your way to a diabetic coma. You should have gone in to get insulin when you first started getting these high readings!

You'll just temporarily need to take insulin, and then when the steroids wear off, you wont need insulin anymore.

Again, see your doctor or go to an ER today. Have someone else drive you, or if nobody can, call 911. Your blood glucose levels are imminently life threatening and you could die -today- if you don't get them treated. - Z

2)   I would agree with Z on this. As for pain, you might want to try the HI-DOW Massager V – the latest in Transcutaneous Electronic Nerve Stimulation or Tens Technology.

"Sue Lamb, the Australian distributor of the Therapeutic Goods Administration-approved device, believes the results speak for themselves.

“We've had so many people come back with testimonies; they've been able to get off morphine patches, they haven’t had to take medication, they’re off anti-inflammatory tablets,” Ms Lamb said.

You may have heard of the technology; a nerve stimulator sending electric pulses to areas in pain to increase circulation and block pain signals. Many people may have been subjected to the technology when giving birth.

The device is set apart from other Tens devices on the market as it continually tricks the brain.

Previously, the brain signal was eventually able to creep through the electronic pulses allowing the pain to slowly come back.

The Hi-Dow has a new 6th mode, which due to technology and the changes of Tens machines, can continually block the pain signals."

Question 4
What happends if I keep prolonging a doctors appointment about my low blood pressure?...  What exactly is low blood pressure? What happens to my health, and can it be the reason why I feel sick most time?

Answers
1)   Low blood pressure means that your heart is not pumping blood efficiently or your blood volume is not sufficient to support normal vasuclar pressure. It is very serious until you get it figured out and treated. You should not drive because you can black out behind the wheel. Google it and find out more than you really want to know but don't put off the appointment again. - uuchurchlady

2)   Weak walls of blood vessels and arteries can lead to very serious complications.Prolonged avoidance increases the risk of these conditions. I'm not a doctor but ask yourself if it's worth the risk. - Altru-man

3)   When you say you have low blood pressure, how low are we talking exactly? And how many readings has this assertion been based on? Single readings are never diagnostic.

Low blood pressure is a relative thing; providing you are not symptomatic and experiencing symptoms such as dizziness and fainting (that would indicate BP is so low it's unable to push blood around the body sufficiently) the number is not that important. It is seldom considered pathology and is rarely ever medicated. It is generally considered a normal healthy variant.

Pathologically low blood pressure is rare and can be caused by different problems such as endocrine problems, certain cardiac issues and diabetes. If you have any health concerns, then you need to see your Doctor.

There is no rational reason to delay medical advice. Doing so may put your health at risk. - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

Question 5
Vitamin B supplements?...  Is vitamin B supplements good for health. Since im a vegetarian i'm taking vitamin B regularly. Would it cause any adverse effects on my body?
ya , its B Complex with Vitamin C and Zinc. Just wanna know if its got a bad effect in future. like any adverse effects?

Answers
1)   Try a B-Complex for maximum health benefits.

B vitamins help with the nervous systems (keeps you calm) keeps your skin clear and helps your immune system. - Love2

2)   The only real concern of b deficiency in vegetarians (usually only strict vegetarians / vegans) is that of b12 deficiency. But, there needs to be some perspective as to just how much b12 supplementation a vegan needs.

Even if you consume NO animal products whatsoever, and you happen to be one of the few vegans out there who manages to consume no b12 fortified food, your b12 needs are still pretty minimal- the maximum a female needs is in the way of 2.6 micrograms a day.

b12 is sold in tablets of up to 5 milligrams, or 5,000 micrograms. Your body stores b12, so you don't need to consume it consistently: you just need to work out to about 2.6 micrograms, perhaps a bit more to be safe, per day. 1 5mg b12 tablet provides you the b12 necessary to have normal, non-deficient levels of b12 for 1923 days, or just over 5 years.

As a to-be-extra-cautious measure, I'd recommend that a strict vegetarian take a 5mg b12 tablet (or the equivalent in smaller-dose tablet form if you can't find 5mg) (and a mixed b tablet, if they wish) 2-4 times per year. No, that's not what the bottles say: they'll tell you to swallow down one a day.

But what the bottles don't tell you is that the only thing taking a daily b supplement is going to do for you is make you produce really expensive urine, because that's where the vitamins are going once your body has stored the maximum it's going to store. So save your money, pop a supplement a couple times a year, and call it a day. - Z

3)   No adverse reactions that I can think of but you do need to know that the liquid B vitamins (sublingual) are much more effective than the pills or capsules. There was a study done on B12 that showed we are most likely taking way less than what could be helpful and of course, even less of a chance of taking too much. - cyndiann
