1)   yes - will

2)   They burn less.
but you should use a bowl, they're tiny and don't burn that much.
plus, smoking blunts/joints can blacken your lips and actually leave burns on your fingers
from hitting the "roach". And you're getting twice the burn due to the burning wrap and jane. - Chasity

Question 3
whats the most painless non prescription pill to overdose on and die?...  if you say things like "please pray" or "people care about you" first know this,
i do not belive in god and praying to something thats not there wont do anything other than make my life even more pathetic then it is now and nobody in my life cares about me. i never had friends or a girlfriend and no matter how hard i try i cant meet anyone else human.
PS: i am an 18 y/o pathetic exuse for a male

Answers
1)   you'll find someone hun :) but you have so many things to live for..so why end it now?
I know it seems hard now but you can get through it, I promise :) - Mrs.Brendon Urie

2)   You're a young boy, there's so much hope for your future.. you'll meet people in your life that will really love and care about you. - Meredith

3)   so am i a pathetic excuse for a male, just be glad your young im 29 and only had one girlfriend who's disturbed excuse for a mother forced us to break up cause she has a TBI and can't commit to anything. read about it, that will keep you busy! that hurt even more that just being a pathetic person, now i just work out wishing i had steroids to kill me sooner! your not alone with this crap. - Ricky Men

4)   You will have to find the category of "I want to commit suicide". This is not the correct category.

Suicide is a selfish and cruel act, done to lash out at the family and friends of the person, to really "show them". Do you really want that to be your legacy, selfishness and cruelty? I sense you may have lots more to offer this world.

You are far too young to commit this act without giving life a real chance.

You can, you really can, turn your life around and make a success of it.

Now, if you were 55 and had never had a spouse, or children or any job other than prison inmate, I don't think these arguments would be valid, and I likely would not take the time to try and convince you otherwise.

Eighteen years old is just about the worst age for any of us who have reached adulthood. Believe me, it DOES get better, lots better, and continues to get better for many years. We ALL felt disenfranchised at that age, that is the common denominator in the "human condition" and the understanding of that is the source of human compassion.

My best and honest suggestion is this: In order to get out of your "funk", do something for someone else. Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, sling food at the local homeless shelter, deliver meals for the invalids at Meals on Wheels. - finaldx

5)   I agree with you, there's nothing to pray to. But I don't agree that there's no one in your life who cares about you. You just haven't met them yet.
When I was 18 I felt like you did. I wanted to die and felt that there wasn't ever going to be anything in my future to live for. Every day seemed pointless, there was no reason for me to get up every morning because nothing would ever change, I'd always be like that. Alone.
That was three years ago and things have changed. Nothing amazing happened in my life, no amazing person came along and suddenly gave me something to live for or any of the crap you see on TV. All I did was keep living. Feeling like I want to die seems so far away from what I feel now. I never thought I'd ever feel like getting up was worthwhile, that I actually wanted to live, but I do now.
Please don't give up on your life because you think it'll never be worth living, or because your future looks like it'll always be as it is now. I know full well that if someone had told me that my life would be happy when I was feeling like you are now that I wouldn't believe them but please believe me.
Find something to live for. I really hope you do. Take care Sam. - Becca M

6)   Your 18, your life is too short to end. Life begins at that age, you will meet many more people in your travels and will find someone who is right for you. Your not a loser, you have the power to change your life. I have been at some very deep holes in my life too, but I always worked hard to change that. And when you realize what life has to offer, it is a beautiful thing. Don't worry about girls, you'll find someone. Relax

You have one life to live, you might as well make the best of it. Killing yourself shuts the door to all the wonderful possibilities it offers.

People have endured all sorts of hardships, and they have made it and lived life to its fullest potential. Why can't you? If they could, you can do it to. Just relax, take things slowly. 18 is the age of possibilities. I hope you make the right choice, and enjoy your life rather then end it. - Helper18

I have a marijuana drug test tomorow and im 300 lbs 6'2 i work out daily and have ate a lot of red meat. Do you think i will pass? P.S. I smoked for medical purposes. Lortabs arnt strong enough pain killers for me and i sprained my knee last week and have been having horrible pain. And to all you annoying people who just like to waste my time and not answer my question. Please dont. This is a Q & A website and not a Question and Comment website. Please if you are going to answer just answer my question and thats it. Im getting sick of some of the people in the community.
Well i was reading some stuff and it said that it passes through the body 3-30 days depending on how big the person is. Im a really big person...

Answers
1)   You'll pass no problem. - Anne Bolyn

2)   LMFAO, there not even the slightest chance youll pass. THC gets stored in Fat Cells. If you dont run and exercise than it takes a 30 days to leave your stysem. Especially depending on what food you eat. The more fat you eat the longer its gonna stay in your fat cells. So, If u blazed last week and fiday which was like 4 or 5 days ago then even with exercise and drink massive ammounts of water ur still failing. 4-6 days is not enough u need a good 2 weeks including excersise and not smoking and eating right. Sorry lmao - YouDontKnow

3)   It is true THC (and the derivatives the drug test detects) are both stored in adipose tissue (fat tissue). However, if you have a current prescription and you live in California (or another state which has medical marijuana laws) you can test positive but cannot be fired since it is considered a medicine. I can only suggest check your state's laws.
But honestly, I doubt you will pass. I have done this tests before (as in actually tested the sample) and I can tell you it takes less then 10mg of THC to indicate a positive result*. - James Michael S

4)   Just drink a lot of water just to make sure. I think you will pass because that is not a lot of weed.

Home Remedies for ear infection?...  I woke up with an ear infection this morning. I don't have health insurance so I've been using the ear drops from my last ear infection, it's been helping, but I don't want to take any chances.
Does anyone have any natural remedies that can help me?
Oh, and some alternative antibiotics would be good too.
Thanks guys.

Answers
1)   try using a drop of olive oil/vegetable oil. use a q-tip or paper towel to drop it in, it takes away the throbbing, and within a couple of days it should be gone. i would take tylenol/advil/ibuprofen, whatever you prefer to take away some of the pain.
this worked on my last ear infection, no medication used whatsoever (: - ice_goddess53107

2)   When you sleep, keep your head face down on the side with the ear infection to give yourself some comfort. Have an Emergen-c packet filled with vitamins to make you immune system stronger, therefore fighting the infection :) Hope this works - Nadia

3)   Try using some paroxyde oil - Zameer

4)   Garlic oil. You can make your own very easily, by dicing up a clove of garlic and adding oil. I use olive oil. Im not sure if there is another oil that you can use. Im sure there are some recipies online.
Anyway dice the clove of garlic and cover with oil. Heat in a pan for a few minutes and then strain ( you need to have a very fine mesh strainer so as not to get pieces of the garlic into the oil.
Cool completly and then drop into ears with dropper. Do one side at a time. Leaving oil in about 15-20 minutes on each side. Take a towl and let each ear drain onto it and wipe clean. repeat up to 4 times during the day. Also, Garlic is a natural antibiotic. Get some garlic tablets as they are much more concentrated then the amount of garlic then you can eat.
I buy my garlic at the GNC store as it is the strongest Ive been able to find. It is called garlic 1000
you can also buy garlic 500 too. it just means that one is 1000 mg of garlic and one is 500 mg.
Garlic is a natural antibiotic, I never go without garlic on my remedies shelf. Good for Colds, flu & urinary tract infections. The garlic oil should only be made as needed. Throw out after 4-5 days and make a fresh batch.

Poll: Acupuncture - yes or no?

Question 1
Poll: Acupuncture - yes or no?...

Answers
1)   After trying for years to get rid of my allergies, I turned to acupuncture as a last resort and it worked. My husband after years of back problems tried it and it worked. So its worth the time and money, the trick is to find the right doctor. I found a Dr. that had graduated from the Hong Kong University. Its a hard one to get into and only the best study there. He fixed us right up. I used Chinese, because they specialize in it. Its part of their life style and they do it best. - Brenda G

2)   It depends what it's for and whether you're talking medical acupuncture or holsitic.

What I would say is that in general it's costly. If you have enough money try 3 sessions and make your decision. There are other therapies far more useful and reliable than acupuncture.eg.massage/yoga

It's never helped me though I've tried it,many people actually are helped through psychological/placebo effect!

It isn't something I'd have much value in. - Yvonne

3)   I am currently having a course of acupuncture treatment for the first time and its amazing so yes. It has nothing to do with placebo and you have to find a good practitioner. - LillyB

Answers
1)   No, homeopathy is an outdated belief that has no medical benefits whatsoever. - dave

2)   No.

Homeopathy is sympathetic magic. It will never treat anything. - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

3)   Just don't go there...

-------
EDIT: @thenoseknows - just like homeopathy can cure epilepsy, huh? Do you have any evidence to support your claim this time? - Gary Y

4)   Homeopathy can cure the cause of the sinus problem so that it doesn't come back, regardless of whether it's an acute problem (sudden onset) or chronic (you've had it longer than 6 months or it comes back on a regular basis). Homeopathic treatment is individualized to the patient, not the problem. A professional certified Homeopath can determine which remedy(ies) are indicated for you.
In the meantime, a good "home remedy" for sinus problems is a salt water flush, either with sterile saline from the drug store, or a Neti pot. - thenoseknows

5)   I'd certainly give homeopathy a try before resorting to chemicals. The salt-water treatment works more often than not; it is widely used in central Europe. - Krazy

6)   The best way to treat sinus congestion without drugs is a Neti pot. You basically irrigate the sinuses with a warm water and saline solution. It has been used for centuries in Asia and I personally have found it to be very effective. I wouldn't really even call it homeopathy.

Edit: So, do the thumbs down mean that I didn't find it effective...? Cause it definitely works for me. - Robin Lindsay

7)   I used to get sinus infections every year until one day I watched a program called "Know The Cause" and he suggested a salt water flush and I have been sinus free for over 5 years.

Why would my Doctor nearly kill me?

Question 1
Why would my Doctor nearly kill me?...  i had a cardiac problem caused by ventolin i was given at hospital which cause potassium problems. why?

Answers
1)   They call it medical practice for a reason. He was just practicing on you. - David

2)   Are you serious, just because you had an unpredictable side-effect to a drug that was designed to save lives does not mean anyone was trying to kill you. - Fez

3)   negligence - Robert C

4)   All drugs can have negative side effects. This sort of side effect is dose related, and I've only seen this happen once in the ER when giving a patient high dose nebulized Salbutamol (Ventolin). Basically, ventolin is a selective B2-agonist, which promotes the movement of K into the intracellular space, and can cause hypokalaemia.

As I said, this is only seen in high doses of nebulized or IV salbutamol.

Hypokalaemia affects cardiac function. It's a risk benefit balance. Your Doctor wasn't trying to kill you. If you were given Ventolin because you were having an asthma attack for example; this helped keep your airways open, and basically kept you alive. Providing hypokalaemia is recognized, it can be rectified, and cardiac arrhythmia's managed.

The good news is, we are aware of little problems like this, Doctors have a good understanding of human physiology and pharmacology. Doctors are able to manipulate drugs to give the desired therapeutic effect. In some cases, Salbutamol is even used to reverse hyERkalemia.

Edit: thenoseknows is ignorant. She does not understand basic physiology or pharmacology and is basically scared of what she doesn't understand.

If it wasn't for modern medicine, you may not even be alive right now. The alties like concepts such as magic water because it offers them simplicity. Science and medicine is too messy and complicated for them to they tend to discard it completely. - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

5)   Hundreds of thousands of people are killed and maimed by properly prescribed prescription drugs and treatments every year. Conventional medicine turns a blind eye towards the problems that drugs cause -- to them it's just collateral damage. They don't know anything else, haven't been trained to do anything else but prescribe drugs. If you need more drugs to fix the problems caused by other drugs, it's a financial gain for them, bad for you.
If you want to solve your health problems and avoid toxic/dangerous "side-effects" then you can find a natural health care professional like a Homeopath or Naturopath. - thenoseknows

6)   But you didn't die, so it all turned out well. As for seeing a naturopath ... I'd like to know what treatment they would give you when you rush in with an acute asthma attack - I don't think waving a few crystals would do much.

What treatment did you expect? If you take salbutamol you only have to read the instructions on the inhaler to know about the potential side effects. Obviously if you're in hospital with a major problen you're going to die without it. So chalk it up to modern medicine that you can complain you had a side-effect. - Nitram

1)   Marijuana doesn't react with other drugs, I don't approve of taking pills to get high though so I'm not going to fully answer this question - Greg D

2)   DO NOT COMBINE DRUGS!!!! O cant stress this enough, doing this will kill your body so fast its unbelievable. But if prozac is a antidepressant or a ADHD pill it can sometimes stimulate a high and make you feel super fast.... But seriously dont do it, it fucks your body up. - ?

3)   Most drugs interact with other drugs, especially if they are illegal.
you are taking prozac for a reason, this reason may have something to do with the amount of marijuan you are smoking - 9litres

4)   There is no difference. I know people who take anti-depressants and smoke and they have no problem with it. - mana_bean84

5)   I took prozac for a while about 15 years ago and found absolutely no negative side effects or interaction with pot.

You really don't notice anything with prozac anyway, just that you're calmer and less inclined to depression. Pot at least makes you feel good.

Question 3
Why Do People Bother With Prescription Antidepressants When 5HTP Turns Into Real Serotonin & Is OTC?...  I found out about 5HTP which turns into serotonin when it crosses the blood-brain barrier and you can buy it in health food stores. I bought some and its helped clear up my depression like magic.

My question is why do people even bother with expensive prescription antidepressant pills when:
1. These pills often lead people to suicide, doing the exact opposite of what they were intended for.
2. They either mimic serotonin or just move it around. How can that compare to something that turns into REAL serotonin?

Since serotonin is the chemical that is lacking in depression then the logical thing is to get something that will actually result in more serotonin if possible and not just a mimicker or something that moves serotonin that's already there around.

Is this just lack of awareness i.e. doctors don't tell patients about it because they need to make money?

1)   I didn't know this but I will try it myself. I suffer mildly with depression and anxiety and I'm terrified of prescription meds. Doctors are scandalous and greedy bastards! Email me some info if you will!! - Debbie

2)   People have to empower themselves by doing research into their own health conditions and apprise themselves of all the information. You can save yourself AND save your money. You have to decondition yourself from the notion that the sick care system works and that drugs are the answer to health problems: they're not. Often they do more harm than good. They simply suppress symptoms. They do not correct imbalances or remove the cause of the problem -- this is real healing that works in the long term.
Regular MD's get next to no training in nutrition, and the drug companies are pretty much running the medical schools, so it's about what you'd expect to be happening. Moreoever, plenty of medical associations will revoke a doctor's license for prescribing/mentioning anything other than prescription drugs. Is this a racket? Yes. - thenoseknows

3)   i with other person can you email me the details aswel - misscacazzy

4)   MDs have a "best practices" policy they must adhere to. If they discuss treatments or remedies with patients that are outside what he pharmaceutical industry hand in hand with the AMA state, they can lose their license. If, on the other hand a patient says to a doctor, can this or that hurt me, the doc will usually say, "no, but you're wasting your money or there's no science supporting it." Both statments may or may not be correct. But if you've done your homework and go to the doc with the scientific studies done in hand from searching the internet, and you say, "I'm going to do this and I'd like you to help me with it." the docs then can help you without the fear of losing their license. They may even tell you what they know about what you're proposing, even tho they couldn't have unless you FIRST brought it up - Francie S

Is it good to smoke this freshly grown weed?

Question 1
Is it good to smoke this freshly grown weed?...  so...i have some weed from a good friend of mine from washington and its wet and freshly grown he said it will take a day for it to become dry again only because the weed is in a small subway (the sandwich fast food place) bag but its enough to fill the bag up.. itz been a day and a half ive been walking around everywhere in the sun with it in my bag should it be okay now itz starting to smell really strong!!!!!! and now people can smell my bag and know i have it! is it good to smoke it??

Answers
1)   i don't think it's good to smoke anything - Jenna

2)   Fuck yea dude light up! But you shouldn't be carrying that around bro, just leave it around your house or something in aluminum foil in a drawer so no1 can smell it. Besides if you got THAT MUCH you don't want the cops confiscating it :). Light up. It's time my friend, to enlighten yourself - Hathcock's ma hero!

3)   i mean you can smoke it if its not properly dried its not "bad" but i dont know how high youll get or how well itll burn if its still wet - dmckoy91

4)   no - blackman

5)   You have to let it "cure." The Subway bag actually isn't a bad way to do that. The top growers use a multi-step process to cure it that maximizes the weed's effect, but tying up the bag and keeping it in your backpack isn't terrible. Do try to keep sunlight off the weed though. Even after it feels dry it is not necessarily cured, that usually takes 5-6 days after it was cut. Sure, if it'll burn you can smoke it now and probably still get high, but it'll get better as more time passes. When it gets so dry that even the center of the buds are dried, and it starts to get crumbled, you can re-hydrate it by tossing in a quarter of a slice of bread and letting it sit overnight. - The Ninjalectual

6)   Nothing is good to smoke, no matter how fresh.
Smoke gets in the lung and blocks the cells. When enough cells are blocked ( could take years) that's when the problems start. - gup

Question 2
Anybody every accidentally ingest cannibutter?...  Quite a bit, actually. I make my own butter, and I measure it out and wrap it the same way my roomie wraps up his (super strong) cannabutter (In parchment paper). I tried a bit once. I was royally screwed. I used it to butter a dinner roll in the dark, and I knew it tasted weird, but it wasn't after I had finished before I realized what happened, but I had two or three times what I had the first time I tried it. I don't like getting high, and I'm probably about to be way screwed.

Those of you out there who like me, don't like marijuana, any suggestions? What should I do to reduce anxiety and fear? How do I get through this. I'm already starting to feel it and and I can tell it's going to be strong. Help?

Question 5
Really bad weed trip?...  I had a bad trip on weed, i smoked out of a bong. ive been high before, I always freak out with only 2 or 3 hits. Id start freaking out more and be like "damn why did i smoke this weed?" and my heart would start racing really fast until i was sure i was gonna die, my heart rate seemed so high. cuz it seemed like it kept getting faster and faster.and i was so scared. i was smoking with my friend and she was fine so i know it wasnt laced with anything, it was just me.
then i called my parents and told them i was high and that i was going to kill myself it was so bad. and they told me to lay down but everytime i tried to lay down i would get back up, so i tried to hold on to the sides of my bed but i just kept getting up again..eventually i forgot i was trying to lay down.. i kept thinking a lot, and and fidgeting a lot,. It was the WORST thing i've ever expirenced. it seemed literally like hell to me. Why do I get panicky & anxious everytime? How do you get so messed up & not care? I learned my lesson!

Answers
1)   happens to me too dont worry. what sucks is that its effects last up to 3 weeks after i do it.

its your mind set if you think happy toughs or not worrying about the last trip and you will be happy smoking.

Just dont do it ever again. and i know you will do it again because you hang around people who smoke. Just find new friends who dont smoke like i did.

Also did you have the same affect as me. when i first started my bad trip all i could see was pictures of what was happening like a movie at 10 frames a sec. then after a wile i could see normally again. - Jim O'b

2)   every bodys genes are all diffren t and react diffrently... obiusly ur genes are sensative ta weed i guess........ - Hector Mon

3)   It has to do with your mind set. Marijuana emphasizes feelings, and it can emphasize anxiety.

If you are prone to getting nervous, marijuana can make you really nervous.

One thing that might help you is to remember that you have smoked before and everything turned out alright in the end. Think about that the next time you smoke.

But this does make a good point. Don't feel like you have to smoke because your friends are doing it. If it scares you, just chill with your friends while they smoke weed and you just chill and talk with them. You'll have a lot of fun seeing them high, and they'll be high so they probably will have a lot of fun chillin with you.

But if you want to try it again, try to focus on relaxing and deep breathing and remember that you will go back to normal as unlikely as it may feel. - Andre

4)   If a "bad weed trip" makes you suicidal, maybe doing drugs isn't for you. There's nothing wrong with that, so don't feel bad. But please, don't do anything stupid like this again. - The Ninjalectual

Is alternative medicine information being manipulated on Wikipedia and google search engines?

Question 1
Is alternative medicine information being manipulated on Wikipedia and google search engines?...  http://bolenreport.com/feature_articles/feature_article070.htm

It looks like someone has exposed a rat about how misinformation is propagated to the public trying to do honest research into other than mainstream medicine. What does this indicate about the skeppie organizations?
The skeppies are busted!
I'd believe a federal judge when he decides that Stephen Barrett is "no expert" and initiated frivolous lawsuits solely for his own financial gain.
The fact that skeppies are just tools in the pockets of these type of people speaks for itself.

Answers
1)   What you have there is a rant by a paranoid conspiracy theorist who finds it necessary to stoop to ad hominem attacks. Who cares? It doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be skeptical of alternative medicine. Especially when proponents such as yourself make dangerous claims like homeopathy can cure epilepsy, then refuse to back those claims up.

Since he attacks Peter Bowditch, see what Peter has to say: http://www.ratbags.com/rsoles/comment/timoranter.htm well worth the read.

-------
EDIT: The wiki page on Alternative Medicine looks like a fair, balanced and truthful, encyclopedic account to me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_health - Gary Y

2)   Ah, more ad hominem attacks on Barrett and various other 'myth-dispellers' by Bolen. When false claims are challenged, the alt.med supporters often have a habit of spreading lies and misinformation about the critics and come up with grand implausible conspiracies. It's desperate.

At the end of the day, what matters is data. And data actually shows the vast majority of AltMed does not work beyond placebo. Nothing you lot say alters this this fact.

There is no "plot" to spread lies and misinformation about Alt.Med or to "hide" data showing alt.med works. The only people who actually go around lying are the Alt.Med promoters.

In short, either provide evidence your woo works, or STFU.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the way, that judge wasn't specifically referring to homeopathy when he said Barret wasn't an expert. He was actually referring to knowledge of FDA procedures and regulations. For this reason, the court did not consider him an appropriate expert to give testimony on the subject. It didn't actually refute any of his testimony.

And apparently it's wrong to have an opinion about homeopathy unless you have no opinion a all. That's an issue with the law.

This does not mean Barret was wrong. - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

3)   No, actually the author of that piece of unsubstantiated nonsense is Tim Bolen who made a lot of money out of failing to defend Hulda "I have a cure for cancer but it didn't work on me" Clark. It's just a load of conspiratorial nonsense he made up one day when he was bored.

My favourite bit is:

"Having trouble finding legitimate research papers that back up the science of advanced health care? Of course you are. There is a systematic attempt to make those kinds of scientific research NOT available on the internet. I'm not going into detail here, for the investigation of how this works, AND WHO, SPECIFICALLY, is behind it is ongoing. But, it is happening."

Larry Sanger, cofounder of Wikipedia, left the organization due to concerns about its integrity.

"In some fields and some topics, there are groups who 'squat' on articles and insist on making them reflect their own specific biases. There is no credible mechanism to approve versions of articles. Vandalism, once a minor annoyance, has become a major headache-made possible because the community allows anonymous contribution. 1)   No, they behave solely in their own best interest and those of the rich Jew bankers who support them. U.S. citizens are losing their jobs, losing their houses, and living in makeshift camps in public parks, and who does the government help? Rich Jew bankers. Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, etc. They get bailed out while we remain jobless and homeless. - John

2)   Not at all. Fascinating article. Moral decision making will always be compromised by the few 'at the top' who desire money and power over doing the right thing. They will go to any lengths to suppress medicines that are better and really do work if they cannot make a profit out of it. People who speak the truth are always ridiculed by the system. No surprises there then! Like I said before - it doesn't matter if there is evidence that speaks to the contrary - it will ignored and condemned by ignorant fools. Whatever! - Katie

3)   Absolutely not. There is a long history of the persecution of anyone who goes against the "status quo" whenever there's money involved. There are no cases whatsoever of supplements or vitamins killing anyone, much less causing injury, however the drug companies have been marketing deadly products for years that have resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and injuries. Have they been closed down? Obviously not. Have they been raided? No.
Drug companies contribute major $$$ to politicians and political parties. So do the oil and chemical cartels. The government is not running things anymore. The corporations are. And they're being run by psychopaths who have no scruples. - thenoseknows

4)   No the government does not have anyone but their own interest at their cold hearts.

Thankfully people are waking up to the corruption, greed, power, elitism etc, and hopefully eventually the population will understand what is really going on in this world.

There is a huge wealth of material on secret agendas/projects etc, all available if you look in the right places.

Do not believe what you see in the media, do not believe that life is simply about slaving away to make pennies. We are in an illusion, a false reality, and they like it that way. Call it the dumbing down of people if you will.

It's an illusion of being free, when really we are anything but.

Also, so much of our history is hidden from the public, aswel as what's going on in the Universe, that's a great subject to research, you'll be amazed! - MoonSkin

5)   Only if you are an illegal alien, then you get free tax, free health care, free housing, free medicine, free dental, free food...need I say more? - zapman

6)   Be thankful they are there to protect us, they've been recalling products that are killing us and making us sick! What's the problem?

The CNN, Consumer Reports, MSN, Everyday Health have been writing about the fake supplements we are wasting our money BILLIONS OF MONEY that are making people sicker. . . .and they all don't work for the government.

If they're not there for us, who would? So many people have already wasted their money on products that made promises, and only to do more harm to us than good.

Google any article and you'll find them printed. THEY ALL DON'T WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT.

Examples: Protein Shake Poisoning or Danger of Protein Shakes.

SHOCKING? Well, too bad, a lot of people have kidney problems, liver problems, hair loss, toenails that fell off, diarrhea, and lung problems because of those FRAUDS committed by products sold to consumers.

Think about it the next time you buy one to enhance yourself. You get everything from Mother Nature, but now those are also tainted.

I support the FDA fully for getting on their toes. I think they're doing a darn good job! - Seeya

7)   In this case yes. They are shutting down cranks and charlatans. If they had any actual evidence supporting their claims, that wouldn't have happened.

Why do you support scam artist preying on the gullible and desperate. - Weise Ente

8)   The US government do a lot of things that give me indigestion, but in this instance, the government are actually trying to protect you from charlatans. Your problem with this is what exactly?

5)   about it you can get information from here http://canmdh99.notlong.com/AAH5Qfd - Shonta Mangas

6)   I suggest that you go the natural route. Drugs may clear it up quicker but many times leave negative side effects. Here are a few tips. To speed the healing of a sore throat, try applying a thin film of carrier oil externally over the throat area. Canola, sunflower, grapeseed and safflower are popular choices and are available in most health food stores.
Apply seven drops of sandalwood essential oil over the carrier oil and rub gently into the skin. This treatment is soothing and smells wonderful, and the carrier oil prevents skin irritation.
Or add two drops of tea tree, ginger, sandalwood or geranium essential oil to ½ ounce of warm water and gargle. Any of these essential oils can be taken with a spoonful of honey to coat the throat.

Stir ½ teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of turmeric into a cup of hot water, and gargle with this mixture before going to bed

Take two or more cloves, crushed or whole, at the first sign of a sore throat and continue eating two cloves a day until your symptoms clear up.

Raw garlic is the most effective, but it can cause gastrointestinal upset. I suggests baking and stir-frying as other ways of getting garlic into your diet. Or, take garlic supplements for all of the benefits with none of the digestive upset. Garlic supplements are available in most health food stores and many drugstores; I suggest taking three capsules twice a day with meals until your symptoms clear up.

Vitamin C can help prevent infection and speed up the healing process. You can safely take up to 10,000 milligrams a day of vitamin C at the first sign of a problem, provided you drink plenty of water to flush away excess amounts of the nutrient. - JoyLynn

7)   If it is viral infection warm salt water gargling will be sufficient,if it is bacterial then 10 day course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin 3 times a day is necessary. - Venky

Multivitamins: How to take them correctly.?...  I heard it's better for you to split your multivitamin : take half of it in the morning and the other half in the evening. Is there any truth to this?

Answers
1)   none at all. read the label, some you can take twice a day. that don't mean you cut it in half, means you take two tabs a day. - rayray

2)   Better, but still probably a waste of your time & money....

Vitamins that are derived from tablets dissolve in your stomach acid, are absorbed by your small intestine, then enter your blood, circulate your body (being absorbed by cells as needed), then are filtered out by your kidneys and pass into your urine, all in the space of about fifteen or twenty minutes. (Think about how quickly after drinking a pint of water you find you need to pee) Vitamins derived from complex foods you eat follow the same basic path, but at a much slower and more drawn-out rate (since it takes far longer for foods to be broken down and to be digested than the two minutes it takes for a tablet that instantly dissolves in the hydrochloric acid in your stomach) so they are entering your bloodstream and being drawn-out by cells over a period of hours rather than minutes...

People spend $20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements.  According to Everyday Health, here's an article that will tell you why . . . those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK.  It is false advertisements.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t have to approve supplements — no agency in the United States does. So it’s up to consumers to bring health concerns to light. “It’s important to understand the difference between over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements,” say Pieter Cohen, MD, an internist at Cambridge Health Alliance and instructor at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass. The FDA gets involved only after the fact, if the supplement later appears to be causing harm. By that time, the supplement may already have harmed many consumers who used it. “The burden of proof is on the FDA to determine [a supplement] is dangerous and remove it from the market,” Cohen says. Consumer complaints are the primary trigger for investigations. One recent investigation of the dietary weight-loss supplement ephedra resulted in it being banned for sale in the United States.
Example: Protein Shakes poisoning article:

China, which has repeatedly been caught exporting contaminated products, is a major supplier of raw supplement ingredients. The FDA has yet to inspect a single factory there.

We have identified a dozen supplement ingredients that we think consumers should avoid because of health risks, including cardiovascular, liver, and kidney problems. We found products with those ingredients readily available in store.

Because of inadequate quality control and inspection, supplements contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, or prescription drugs have been sold to unsuspecting consumers. And FDA rules covering manufacturing quality don’t apply to the companies that supply herbs, vitamins, and other raw ingredients.

4)   No, that is completely inaccurate, either you heard wrong or the source is untrustworthy. . Generally, it would state the directions regarding the method for taking the mult vitamins . Most of the labels say that your supposed to swallow one capsule per say or chew it for the chewable You may or may not know this already, but you can determine whether the vitamin has absorbed based on the color of your urine which would be almost like an orange color upon taking it the proper way. Good Luck and disregard whoever told you that. - Jason W

5)   It's always better to divide your vitamin doses to twice a day. That way there is more even coverage in the blood stream over a 24 hour day. Liquid vitamins are best as they are more easily absorbed than a hard tablet. - Marc

Why do we have to stand up for health freedom?

Question 1
Why do we have to stand up for health freedom?...  "Alternative Medicine" is defined as any protocol, action, or therapy that isn't "drugs, radiation, or surgery oriented."

Wrongfully named? Yes. So-called "alternative medicine" is actually the health choice of planet earth. It is a combination of every good health idea invented by mankind, in every country and culture on this planet. There is nothing "alternative" about it. Labeling planet earth's health choice as "alternative" is, and was, a propaganda device.

North Americans have overwhelmingly (by their purchases) made "Alternative Medicine" the "health choice of the people" - for the best of reasons: it works better than allopathic, it "removes the cause" rather than "treating the symptoms," it is cost effective, it makes people feel better and think clearer, and it doesn't have all those horrible effects, and side effects, of invasive surgery or prescription drugs.

More than half of the US health dollar in 1999 was spent on "Alternative Medicine" and it was all out-of-pocket. Conventional medicine is being paid for, and is surviving, only because insurance and Medicare pay for it - the public won't spend an out-of-pocket nickel on it.

Alternative Medicine philosophies fit the enlightened (I'll make my own decisions) way of thinking. Allopathic Medicine philosophies fit the fascist (follow my orders) way. "Alternative Medicine" is for people who think for themselves.

The door to real "alternatives" is barely open. The future of medicine is right in front of us - it isn't in pharmaceuticals - it is in nutrition, body cleansing, prevention, oxygen therapies and energy medicine - all of which are targeted by the sleaziest of critics.

Answers
1)   Plagiarized from http://www.quackpotwatch.org. It's not only rude to post something in your own name someone else wrote it's also breach of copyright and without citing sources plagiarism.

As for "Conventional medicine is being paid for, and is surviving, only because insurance and Medicare pay for it - the public won't spend an out-of-pocket nickel on it" Have you thought about who is paying for medical insurance? Really if people in the US don't want to pay for their health all they have to do is to not pay their insurance policy. I would be in favour of a total opt-out. You sign a declaration and you don't have to pay your taxes or insurance policies for health care. The quid-pro-quo is that unless you pay cash up front you get no conventional medical treatment for anything no matter what.

I didn't actually see a question in all that ranting, just a lot of unsubstantiated nonsense. If energy healing is believed to exist, then let's see the evidence, we can measure it. if it exists.

"it is in nutrition, body cleansing, prevention, oxygen therapies and energy medicine - all of which are targeted by the sleaziest of critics." you mis-spelt 'practitioners'

ETA

"FDA approved Pulsing Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) " And these fields can be measured.

"Pulsing magnetic fields from the hands of Reiki therapists" haven't been measured. How would it even work down a phone line? You know about remote energy healing right. - Nitram

2)   You know, you really don't do the alties any favors, Nosey.

What do you mean there is "nothing "alternative" about it."

AltMed refers to activites that haven't been scientifically validated or shown not to work.

You're acting like you are being suppressed, bullied and witch hunted by big bad pharma, you're not. The vulnerable and gullible have to be protected in society.

"North Americans have overwhelmingly (by their purchases) made "Alternative Medicine" the "health choice of the people"

That means nothing, and where is your data for this? Now I know you guys have problems with your health care system, or rather, access to it, and I am sorry your goverment does not consider you guys worthy of a decent health care system. In desperation some people may turn to altmed, however, there is no logic in this. It still does not work. Humans by nature, are not logical beings, it's the same with religion. Popularity does not demonstrate efficacy.

The whole "removes the cause" rather than "treating the symptoms," is BS. Altmed neither treats the cause OR the symptoms of any specific disease entity. Altmed isn't cheap either.

You've been asked to support your claims numerous times, to date you haven't.

"The future of medicine is right in front of us - it isn't in pharmaceuticals - it is in nutrition, body cleansing, prevention, oxygen therapies and energy medicine - all of which are targeted by the sleaziest of critics."

Evidence ? - Rhianna does Medicine Year 1

3)   Actually alternative "medicine" is defined as any protocol, action, or therapy that isn't supported by evidence. If it actually works, it isn't alternative. - Weise Ente

4)   I wholeheartedly agree with you 'the nose knows'. It definitely is a propaganda device to make people think that mainstream medicines are better and the only option for health concerns. The reason we have to stand up for health freedom is because there has always and will always be a conflict between the greater vulgarities of human nature (self-preservation, security etc. which would include making money/huge profits) at the cost of morality (the right thing to do). How can we really trust people in power to make decisions in favour of the highest good of other people if they are only concerned with their OWN highest good and their OWN interests (money, power security etc.) It just doesn't work. This pattern will continue until people become more enlightened and aware.

I've just finished watching that film 'Moon' starring Sam Rockwell and it illustrates my point very well I think. Rather than training people to do the job after his three year contract ended, they cloned him over and over again so the mining company could save money. Was it the right thing to do? The answer is: NO. It shows how money is made at the expense of human suffering. Doing the right thing isn't economically viable.

Energy healing does exist: (we just don't know why it works as of yet). The mechanism behind it needs to be discovered and understood.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15674004

http://www.sanacionysalud.com/reiki/reikiratas.pdf

http://www.ardath.com/docs/The_Science_Behind_Reiki.pdf

'Pulsing magnetic fields can jumpstart the healing of tissue, bone and other body
parts. In the 1970s, biomagnetic research showed that certain magnetic fields could
stimulate the growth process in bone fractures that resisted healing. Soon after, the FDA
approved Pulsing Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) for bone healing, in which wire
coils placed near the fracture induce electrical current flows in the bone. The necessary
frequency range is 7 Hz.

Pulsing magnetic fields from the hands of Reiki therapists are in the same
frequency ranges that are optimal for stimulating tissue repair. Biologically optimal
levels of electromagnetic frequencies for stimulating human tissue repair are all in what’s
called the extremely low frequency (ELF) range. They have been documented as 2
cycles per second (Hz) for nerve regeneration, 7 Hz for bone growth, 10 Hz for ligament
repair, and 15 Hz for capillary formation.

Dr. John Zimmerman measured the magnetic field frequencies of Reiki practitioners and
other energy therapists while they worked on clients, and found that they all emitted ELF
frequencies from their hands. The range of that field was 0.3 to 30 Hz, the same range
of frequencies associated with healthy tissue and organs. The frequency occurring most
often in the hands of energy therapists was 7 Hz, the same frequency as the PEMF
device approved by the FDA for stimulating bone growth.'

Of course, these facts are not accepted by the mainstream and until they are, (God knows when that will be) nobody else (who has an invested interest in Big Pharma) will acknowledge it. Fair enough. All we can do is provide the evidence.

I'm getting tired of repeating myself though. It's getting really old. (Yawn).

EDIT: The Nose Knows: Take Gary Y for example - see what I mean? No matter what you say - no matter how much evidence you provide, you will never ever be able to get through to them lol He wanted scientific evidence/proof that energy exists - and he got it. Of course, it still isn't good enough! Why am I not surprised? (For the reasons I gave above I suppose). Now he doesn't know what to do! (Him and his little pals cannot think outside the'mainstream' programme.) I wouldn't waste your time with them. The results speak for themselves. This forum is comedy central. - Katie

5)   Health Freedom stands for access to quality, proven healthcare for ALL people regardless of race class and gender. Health freedom stands for lower prices for medicines, diagnostics, and professional medical care. It is freedom from having to worry about hospital and pharmacy bills. (Yeah, I have left-leaning tendencies. I live in a poor country.)

It is not freedom to get scammed by uneducated quacks peddling fake cures and false hopes.

edit: I guess for the quacks, Health Freedom is akin to letting merchants sell a bad product. Oooh, too bad you got scammed, we have health freedom y'know. - angrydoc

6)   You said, "Alternative Medicine" is defined as any protocol, action, or therapy that isn't "drugs....."

From Oxford Dictionaries:

"DRUG
noun - a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body" http://oxforddictionaries.com/view/entry/m_en_gb0246180#m_en_gb0246180

That would exclude all of herbal medicine, homeopathy, vitamins and supplements, would it not?

Your plagiarized rant failed in the first sentence.

I can't be bothered with the rest.

Notice how I named and cited my source?

@katie, you wouldn't have to repeat yourself if would stop being so willfully ignorant/dishonest. You have been shown several times now that you are not providing sound evidence let alone proof. Go back and read: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtHPKqEfOntdluZbXGSEmnTty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20101018194818AA8PH5R&show=7#profile-info-8KfzTiDDaa - Gary Y

7)   Weise (is that German for retarded ?) Ente

I have been tremendously helped by something that is called Alternative Medicine.
Point.
That's evident.
Would you then call it Mainstream for just this one time, and Alternative again when it fails.

My mother once was not helped at all by taking a whole box of pills described by her GP,
so for this time only Mainstream Medicine turned into Alternative?

You are definitely Weis (retarded), just as your peers. - SmartAss

8)   The next time you get in a car wreck - go see your herbalist then! - Joe

9)   So by your definition of freedom anyone should be able to peddle whatever they want without regulation of any sort right? So unlisenced police officers, fire fighters, pilots, and construction foremen selling their services all sound like a good idea to you?

And Katie this is from your own source:

"Autonomic nervous system changes during Reiki treatment: a preliminary study."

Notice the label PRELIMINARY STUDY on there.

"CONCLUSIONS: The study indicates that Reiki has some effect on the autonomic nervous system. However, this was a pilot study with relatively few subjects and the changes were relatively small. The results justify further, larger studies to look at the biological effects of Reiki treatment."

Did you miss that part?

It was a small scale study that showed minor results. And to be perfectly honest, Reiki does sound soothing so why wouldn't someone relax while undergoing it?

Not to mention there is 0 mention of reiki as a treatment for any medical condition. A slight reduction in blood pressure will not cure cancer. - Flizbap 2.0

Question 2
please help me with my health homework about reflexology!?...  1.Discuss reflexology and give a brief description. Outline how it works and give an example of its use.
2.why do most people use reflexology? discuss
3.Examine the biggest population uses of your reflexology in society. Discuss reasons in your answer.
4.Suggest some risks associated with using your alternative health service. Discuss.
5.Suggest three advantages and three disadvantages of using your alternative therapy.

Answers
1)   Well, I do know it has something to do with birthing! - pineapple

2)   1 - it's a foot massage
2 - they are gullible. As an aside, did you know that the word gullible is not in the Websters 2008 dictionary, it got left out.
3 - new agers and conspiracy theory nuts - they believe anything
4 - it can kill you because you don't get real treatment
5 - it's great for the walking well with nothing wrong with them, it feels relaxing, it gets you away from the kids for an hour or so. It can lead to death! - Nitram

3)   1. Reflexology is a branch of 'alternative' medicine based on the concept that there are zones on the feet and hands that reflect certain areas of the body; and manipulating these zones (or reflex areas) promotes healing through one's 'Qi', which is a pre-science notion meaning 'vital life force' - a concept invented by ancients who had no idea of how living organisms work. No plausibility or evidence exists for Qi.

Example of its use? People use it primarily for pain relief, but reflexologist claim to be able to treat all sorts of conditions, such as: arthritis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, water retention, reduction of inflammation, hormone balance, fertility, etc etc..

2. Most people do not use reflexology.

3. The biggest population uses would be by people who are gullible, have little understanding of science, nature and reality, or vulnerable people who are willing to try anything no matter how crazy when nothing else seems to work. As to where these populations exist can't be determined as alternative medicine typically does not keep such data and reflexology has no proper regulation. Though I'd suggest new-agey areas may attract many reflexologists.

4. The main risk associated with reflexology would be if it is used in place of proper medical treatment for serious conditions.

5. Advantages: its relaxing, it's relaxing and it's relaxing. Disadvantages: standard foot massages are cheaper, it promotes uncritical thinking, and the placebo effect does not work for everyone.

I guess they haven't discussed clinical trials or scientific plausibility with you yet huh? I hope you aren't paying too much money for this. - Gary Y

4)   A very good answer from Gary. I would add that for number 1 (Outline how it works...) if you are able to answer this then you're in line to win a Nobel Prize for medicine/physics as it defies all known scientific laws and there's also no evidence for its existence!

Basically it's impossible to answer that part of the question but good luck all the same, you'll need it for a tutor who sets impossible questions. - dave

3. Alternative medicine proponents who need some magic in their life.
4. You could delay ACTUAL treatment and die.
5. A) No side effects B) It's a good massage C) it's a good excuse to wash your feet that month / A) It doesn't work B) It doesn't work C) It does not work. - Flizbap 2.0

8)   Your question is a magnet to spiritual retards,

perhaps you are unfamiliar with this category but several of them are wandering around because their scientific knowledge brings them nowhere else.

Reflexology is not a science. Of course some people try to make a science of it. They are also retards, altMed retards. you have retards at both sides.

A lot of people use reflexology, but they are not aware of it, as they are not aware of so many things.

They however use a lot of mainstream medicine, because they get easily influenced by so people with so called authority, still a remains of the Pisces Age.

The ris with any health service is that you are giving the responsability for your own health in someone else hands. With responsability I mean you search for the cause until you find it, you observe it, be aware of it and let it go naturally.
That's the only responsability you have in life. All the other so called responsabilities you have in live are pure BS. (B U L L S H I T)
In the meanwhile you need to find a solution for the acute problem when you are sick, that can be a doctor, or someone else that can provide you with something that helps quickly.
But remember to take care of yourself during the process and after.
What will be the effect of taking care of yourself, you will see with your own eyes only. - SmartAss

Question 3
Remote Reiki healing - what's it all about?...  Can anyone tell me how this remote healing actually works?

http://remotehealing.com/

States that "comprises the practitioner sending universal energy for the clients greater good" If the energy is the same as electromagnetic energy as claimed by one person quoting Zimmerman " biomagnetic field of the practitioners' hands is at least 1000 times greater than normal, and not as a result of internal body current"

Well we all know that the electromagnetic fields follow an inverse square law and magnetic fields follow inverse ^5 laws (magnetic field strength is proportional to 1/distance^5). So if remote healing is possible and over 10,000 km then the magnetic fields would have to be tremendous. An MRI unit emits getting on 2T and can hardly be detected outside the building it's in.

So the questions:

Just how strong is this magnetic field emitted by a reiki master that it can be felt thousands of kilometers away? Why hasn't he been killed by flying cars and falling aircraft attracted to this immense magnetic field? It would be noticeable for km around.
"In Reiki, the potential within you is explored. That is the actual energy within you "

So it's nothing to do with magnetism like Kate and Zimmerman say? It's a religion which sort of makes sense. Unsupported faith that needs no evidence.
Flizbap: Don't give them any more ideas than they already have.
a4adam: it's not really addressing the question by saying what it's not. However I see you are also disagreeing with Zimmerman who was explicit that it was a magnetic field.

3)   hands on reiki treatment don't even work on me...so i'm a little skeptic about a remote one...! - Mr.Lucky

4)   Reiki is not at all unscientific.
Please remember that whenever science fails religion begins.
Please do not under estimate your inner potential. If you try and awake your inner-self and arise with a determination that , yes you are capable and can do do, I am sure you will succeed.

In Reiki, the potential within you is explored. That is the actual energy within you !!!!
If you concentrate and pull your inside force, it gives out positive energy and that is the spirit that drives you and you forget everything and perform only to achieve your goal.
If you concentrate on one thing, you forget everything else and thus your determination helps you to draw your mind away from all earthly pains and distress.

So dear friend, you are the Power, the Energy and the Force .Explore it and feel the Energy and HEAL THYSELF AND HELP OTHERS TOO WITH A SPIRIT OF SERVICE TO OTHERS.

Please control your Mind first as it is more difficult to control than the "Mouse" which you learn to control when you first use "Windows" in your PC. - PARTHA R

5)   Why doesn't the CIA use remote reiki to wipe out enemies hard drives from miles away? - Flizbap 2.0

Question 4
Is it safe to take Champarix to give up smoking?...  Hi, I've tried giving up smoking with patches 3 times, as soon as the course is over, i'm back smoking. I found they were like a security blanket but soon as they were gone that was my weak point. It's not the giving up its keeping to it. I've gone 6months to a year but now back again. A friend of mine is using champarix. He smoked 40 a day and has now gone two months with no cravings at all but he did say he felt a bit lost? I've read some nasty stories and good stories. I've spoken to my doctor who has prescribed these to me and i am yet to set a date. Dont think i can deal with nightmares and long long list of side effects.
Any advice from anyone who has tried or is using champarix would be great - Thank you.
Sorry the name is CHAMPIX.

Answers
1)   It is not effective. When a wild cigarette appears, i use Herroin. It's super effective! - ericisy0daddy

2)   Ok I googled Champarix and it didn't come up with anything so I think you're talking about Chantix. If you are, my dr gave me a prescription for it, and after reading the horrible side effects, the prescription went in the trash. There is now a class action law suit against them. Lung cancer and emphysema are safer... - ♥ neionix ♥

3)   I took champix. I had some slight sickness feeling at first. Could have been withdrawal symptoms I guess. I did take it for 6 weeks and have not smoked in the 9 months since. I don't know if it was the pill that had an effect or the method by which you take them. you start by smoking while on the pill and you are told that the pills make the cigarette less enjoyable. for one reason or another that is what happened. I stopped enjoying my smoke so after 10 days I just stopped wanting one. I do ok now but about once a week I fancy a smoke. especially with a nice tumbler of whiskey and 1 lonely block of ice. But that craving is far outweighed by wanting my little boy to have a daddy at his wedding and a babysitter for his kids. - Angelhil

4)   Fairly simple decision really:

Take Champix, have a extremely low risk of some unpleasant side effects.

Keep smoking, know that it has a 50/50 chance of killing you early, that you may have a leg amputated, that you're risking cancer for those around you, that 80% of lung cancer patients have smoked and your chance of developing COPD is massively increased. - dave

5)   Hi Julie.. u can take chantix... to give up smoking u need to follow instruction...and u will get desired results..!!
The usual recommended dose is 1 mg taken twice daily after following 1-week course as follows:
Days 1 – 3: 0.5 mg taken once daily.
Days 4 – 7: 0.5 mg twice daily.
Day 8 : end of treatment: 1 mg taken twice daily for 12 weeks.
Best of luck..!! - Maria R

6)   You know, with any drug "individual results" may vary. They are a class of drug that effect brain chemistry, so "out of it" is how some people are going to feel. I tried chantix (that's the antismoking drug here) twice, and it's the second worst experience I have ever had. That said: it has worked for many people, and it's certainly worth a try despite what you might hear. Testimony means little compared to direct experience. You can always stop taking it if you start having negative effects

I found the patches worked best for negating the wihdrawl effects of the nicotine. (In fact, I'm wearing one right now, have been for weeks - and yes, I know, the nightmares SUCK) I wear them until bed and when I brush my teeth I pull them off, then wipe oil over the area to disolve the drug in the adhesive that remains. I then slap on another one first thing in the morning - - that seems to work for preventing the nightmares) And yeah, most people who smoke will relapse at some point. Most addicts to any substance do - it is why the motto of the American Lung Association is "Don't quit quitting*" - - and that's why after you put down the pack it's especially important to be vigililent of triggers. I wouldn't drink in a bar for several months, I would avoid the family members who truly push your buttons, etc, etc. I'm in that same boat. I can't tell you how many times I have put them down only to pick them back up a month, three months later. I would have "just one" and be right back into it full swing shortly.

I've been given very firm orders by the doctor to quit. Not that mambsy-pambsy "you should", but "you must" - - which has been a great motivating factor. Make up a list of things that motivate you - - mine is taped to the bathroom mirror ;)

Good Luck. Best Wishes.

Question 5
natural dandruff shampoo?...  are there any dandruff shampoos with all natural ingredients that really work? i've tried tea tree oil products and it doesn't seem to work for me. i don't mind if it has the same active ingredient as one of the regular dandruff shampoos like head & shoulders or selsun blue, but i'd like it to not contain the other stuff those shampoos are made from like ammonium laurel sulfate, etc.

also, i'm wondering if the natural shampoos are not allowed to be called dandruff shampoos. i've noticed that everything i look at is for 'dry or itch scalp' or 'fine or oily hair' even though it's on a list of dandruff shampoos. is it like how vitamins have to say they don't treat or cure any disease?

Answers
1)   I picked up tea tree oil, in the vitamin aisle, and mixed it myself with the shampoo, it is really strong but this method worked better than the shampoo already mixed. I also bought a copper coated hairbrush. A few times a week I will squeeze fresh lime juice and rinse my hair with it.

If none of these work over a few weeks, you should contact a doctor. - This Never Gets Old

2)   you need a shampoo with selenium in it. there are no natural shampoos, they are all artificial detergents. You can use soap, but it doesn't really do a good job. - Nitram

3)   http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GHITC8?&tag=shopwiki1006-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325

I like that one when I need it - and yes, they can't say they treat dandruff because that would be a drug claim. - Tink

4)   Many times the cause for dandruff is dry scalp. You need moisturizing shampoo or scalp oil treatment. You can do a hair musk at home using mayonnaise, it is a very good moisturizer as it is rich in oils and protein. Apply mayo on your hair, cover with shower cap and keep on for 30-40 minutes. Shampoo hair, mayo washes off easily and the hair and scalp is well moisturized. I would also recommend nettle shampoo that is very good natural, for hair care. You can buy it in most health food stores. - Ms know it all

5)   Mostly, they all don't work after a time even if they work in the short run because scalp yeasts and also bacteria are major players in dandruff formation and its etiology and these micro-organisms get used to a particular formulation, developing their own resistance mechanisms so they can recolonise as before..triggering a scaly and flaky [dandruff] scenario yet again.

Whatever shampoos you decide to use.....go for a variation and rotation between them. And keep changing and adapting these by adding different combinations of essential oils.

Coconut oil or olive oil are good to condition the scalp by descaling and moisturising the scalp and some components of both these oils have anti-fungal and bacterial properties.....such as caprylic acid in coconut oil and oleanolic acid in olive oil. You could try a deep conditioning treatment using one of these oils every 2 weeks. Although dandruff tends to be more associated with greasy hair ironically so the sebum composition must not be optimum. Jojoba oil is another natural oil [and waxes mix] that might help here by slowing down natural sebum production and substituting a more balanced blend of fatty acids and waxes [jojoba is similar to healthy sebum] that should give a better conditioned scalp in the dandruff prone.

Applying natural henna every 6-8 weeks would also help....but it has to be bona fide 100% pure henna and that would only really work on dark hair because it reddens the hair somewhat. You can add a little ground coffee or tea however to darken the effect. Henna is astringent and so is coffee and tea....these can all help condition the scalp.

Coconut oil as a base for shampoo, or olive oil as a base might also help as part of a rotation. Some essential oils that might help include those from rosemary, thyme, neem, lavender, geranium, cedarwood, basil, chamomile, patchouli, myrrh, peppermint, ylang ylang and tea tree. Go easy on these though. And i would suggest to add only to the shampoo you intend to use for the day...varying what you add each time you wash your hair. You only need to add one drop of one or two essential oils. It could get expensive though so you might only want to invest in 3 or 4 in total.....if you can budget for that.

You could also wash your hair with olive oil soap if you are worried about the various sulphates and other chemicals if you have a sensitive scalp. Though soap are quite alkaline so you could balance that with an apple cider vinegar rinse. Or you could look for eco-friendly green chemical free shampoos online....or you could make your own if you are feeling adventurous....just make sure you do thorough research first so you don't produce anything that might be harmful.

Good luck.. - Jcat ♥
