I'm 13 and I'm 5'7", am I too tall?

Question 1
I'm 13 and I'm 5'7", am I too tall?...  I'm 13 years old and I'm 5ft 7 inches tall. I'm taller than all my friends and most of the boys in my year and I'm worried when I'm older I'm going to be REALLY tall and all my boyfriends will be shorter than me.

Answers
1)   u r so lucky friend!
when u'll grow up then the realization will come up - ♥♥♥¢υяισυѕツ♥♥♥

2)   no, you are perfectly normal :) - Matt

3)   No ur not to tall dont worry about it , i was 5'4" at 13 . and about 5'7" now im 14 , strangley within the next year , some of your friends will shoot up aswell hopefully , i used to be tallest in my year now im like 4th tallest - JcM

4)   Yes - you should be cut off at the knees !
Seriously, at 13 years old. 5' 7" is tall, but not abnormal. Everyone develops at a slightly different rate, females particularly. Hormonal or "growth" changes mean that 99% of the time everything will settle down by the age of 16/17 and you will be at your optimum height and around the average for your peer group. Nothing to worry about. (Unless you reach 8' tall with no signs of stopping) - Old Folkie

5)   Well the short answer would be yeah lol I'm like 6'2 and I only just turned 15 yesterday and when I was 13 I think I was like 5'5 or something, but then again some people stop growing and others keep growing if they're tall for their age. They say growth (height) happens differently in girls. - Osama Dick Laden

6)   Is Elle Macpherson too tall? You'll be fine, just don't out with a short bloke like Bernie Ecclestone, it's a bit ridiculous when he only came up to his wife's naval. - Nitram

7)   Don't worry, you might get a couple of inches taller but still you will stay the same height for the rest of your life,BUT!!! look at the positives you can have a ca-rear in modelling and you can date boys that are older than you ,you probably wont gain wait because you are so tall and in the next couple of years everybody will be catching up to your height .My point is just don't worry about it you might look abnormal to yourself but you probably look stunningly goerges to others. - Pixi

Question 2
How can I unblock my ear with wax that I pushed up further with a cotton bud?...

Answers
1)   A few drops of warm olive oil 2-3 times a day. And DON'T use cotton buds!!!! They are extremely bad for your ear. - LytraGeek

2)   Go your your doctor and explain the problem, they can give you oil or drops to put in your ears which melts the wax. Once it's melted you can clear it easily with a cotton bud.

Using a smaller item to try and clear the wax without pushing it up isn't safe, so don't even think about it :) - Netty

3)   You can get small medicine sized bottles of peroxide, not string peroxide, really mild stuff. You poor it in your ear an all the wax bubbles then you turn your head and it pours out. My step dad did it an it was quite surprising, it doesn't do anything bad as his family have done it there whole lives. - Adrian Spence

4)   The only thing that should go into your ear is your elbow. That's what my Dr. told me. Go and see your practice nurse and tell her what you did. Before you go spend a few days using warm olive oil to make sure the wax is softened so she can clean it properly for you. - Nitram

5)   Go to a doctor and get your ear syringed. Do NOT waste any time with putting any gunk or dangerous chemicals in your ear. - dave

Question 3
I find it VERY difficult to wake up in the morning.?...  Most mornings i sleep till midday on average. Because i go to school i have to wake at 7am, and this is really dificult for me. I set two alarm, out of reach yet this dosent do shit. Most mornings i actually walk across m y room, turn of the alarms and dive back into bed without even waking up. My farther usually turns on the lights and steals my blankets, yet i do everything in my power to stay asleep. I lie i kick i fight, i hide and sleep.

This sucks cause i like waking up in the mornings, yet on the rare ocasion i do i spend most of the morning feeling really drowsy, and its not untill the late afternoon and night that i feel most awake and productive. And no matter how early i wake up, hel even if ive just pulled an all nighter, i find it dificult to fall asleep.

In a dark cool quite room it usually takes me 30min - and hour to crash. Are there any techniques that will help me wake up earlier in the morning.

2)   I saw a thing on tv about an experiment using a daylight lamp, you know the ones will the full spectrum of light?

They had an early morning tv presenter who had to get up at 4 am, or maybe earlier?

The point is, that the 'wake up' trigger in you brain is the pineal gland, (I think) and it responds to daylight.

This tv personality found she was more alert in the morning when using the lamp for and hour while she ate her breakfast and did her hair etc.

If you bought a lamp and set it on a timer to come on for an hour beside you before you need to get up, (I don't think the light needs to enter your open eyes as such... not sure ) maybe it would trigger the chemical in the brain associated with waking and,, once this pattern is created, you may sleep better at night too.

Sounds like you are a natural night owl, but you can retrain your brain habits... don't eat late at night, or do energetic things. Eat breakfast first thing to kick start your metabolism, and have your main meal earlier in the day, lunchtime for example. For a while, make going to school THE most exciting thing in your day... stop socialising at night and watching tv late, as this acts as a stimulus. Make the evening as boring as possible, and the morning where all your mental and physical activity is focused on. I bet you could get up early on Christmas morning!! Give yourself treats to look forward to in the early day hours, so your entire system is geared to revolve around that time.

Hope this might help!

3)   It's normal for some people to be best in the evenings but I have exactly the same problem with getting up...
Things that helped me:
1. Often it seems that I'm happiest when I'm sleeping (yeah my life sucks a bit), but if I just think of one small thing I could do and enjoy when I wake up I find getting out of bed easier. It can be anything; a computer game, a friend, having a wank, if really doesn't matter :P
2. Eat healthy and get lots of exercise, you will sleep better and feel happier
3. I was bullied at school and had fights with my dad to get me out of bed; if there's a problem deal with it then you will be happier!

Hope this helps :) - Bob Hoffdog

4)   How severe is your tiredness during the day? Does is cause you problems with memory, concentration, or doing your work? How much sleep do you get a day? What time do you fall asleep?

I would really recommend you see your doctor. It is not uncommon for people, especially people 13-24 to be groggy after waking, to be tired at the start of the day, and to feel most awake in the later afternoon and into the night. Actually during adolescence and up to mid 20's most people are not fully awake until about 3pm. HOWEVER what you describe sounds far worse than normal and if your excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is causing you significant problems it could indicate a medical problem like hypoglycemia, hypothyroidism, narcolepsy, organic primary idiopathic hypersomnia, sleep apnoea, Kleine-Levin syndrome (KLS), circadian rhythm disorders, insomnia (acute), primary insomnia (chronic), acute severe anxiety, major depressive disorder, and many other things. Also using large amounts of caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, or using certain prescription or illegal drugs can cause problems.

The only way to really be able to wake earlier is to go to sleep earlier and if it takes 30-60 min for you too fall asleep then it is unlikely you will be able to sleep earlier. But if you do have some insomnia, which sounds like the case, that can certainly cause EDS and difficulty waking up. Often people with EDS due to insomnia typically find it hard to sleep even when exhausted or they may become extremely tired and will sleep during the day.

If there is no physical cause of the EDS then, depending on the severity of the problem and other factors, shot term medication may be required to relieve symptoms. Although unlikely if it is a true chronic sleep disorder then long-term medication may be required. Often little more than 5-10 days of hypnotics like Ambien (zolpidem), Lunesta (eszopiclone), Imovane (zopiclone), Restoril (temazepam) or others is required to fall asleep earlier, get a restful nights sleep, and "reset."

In some causes a polysomnogram (sleep study) is done to look for any sleep disorder and to objectively measure sleep.

I have given reputable links to information about sleeping disorder and links to tests you can take that measure hypersomnia (however only a doctor can make a diagnosis). - Mathieu

5)   go to bed earlier and then you'll be able to get up earlier. Also don't have a lie in at weekends, that resets your body-clock the wrong way again - Nitram
